Seriously. The Bushies always frame them as "the Iraqi people". Huh?

The Kurds have all but established their own breakaway country.
The Shiites are gaining power through the religious leaders and Iran.
The Shiites and Sunnis are at each other's throats.
The Sunnis are pissed that they are going to be virtually cut out of oil revenues and will no longer run the country.

Who are these "Iraqi people" the Bu$h Administration speaks of?

Do Iraqi's look at the country as one people?
It doesn't seem that way...not for thousands of years.

1. "The Iraqi People" are an collection of vastly different cultures
Edited on Thu Dec-08-05 10:31 PM by Canuckistanian
The Sunnis are Saddam's people, pivileged and in power under Saddam.

The Shiites are the majority in the middle, long persecuted for their religious and cultured beliefs.

And the Kurds, who, historically, culturally, racially and linguistically are separate from the other two. They have more in common with the Turks, Iranians and Syrians than Iraq.

The problem all started when a bunch of white guys from France and Great Britain drew a line in the sand and called them all "Iraqis"

2. Er, I wouldn't
say the Kurds have more in common with the Turks. Please remember, Turkey has banned the use of various letters of the alphabet, including W, which is a necessary letter in many Kurdish words. Of course, if the Turks wanted to ban W over here...
