Dennis Kucinich Speaker of the House in 2004...
Kucinich isn't my number one choice for president, but wouldn't it be great if we won the House in 2004 and elected him as speaker. I think our congressional leadership desperately needs some fire and I think he is the right guy to do it. Although we have a snowball's chance in hell of winning the House in 2004, anybody think he could be elected speaker if we did?

1. If he's president...
he can't be speaker of the house, can he?

No, I don't think he can do it. The establishment doesn't like him.

2. If we win back the House
which is all but impossible, Pelosi will get credit and she will be named Speaker.

4. Deserve it how?
I guess if you sell out your party in the previous cycle, sudden victory in the next still merits the title?

7. Just what are you talking about
she was against the war, and pretty solidly liberal down the line.

9. For starters she won't criticize Dennis Hastert...
Who we know is just a tool for Tom DeLay agenda. Secondly, she just whines about how the democratic voice can't be heard because of the rules committee, blah blah blah. There was absolutely no reason to compare the Ways and Means committee chairman calling the capitol police on the democratic congressman to the civil rights movement, if anybody recalls that incident. Instead of complaining why doesn't she round up some GOP defect votes for ammendments to at least get something good done. She seems pretty much like a female Daschle clone to me.

10. I think you need to get a clue
The Republicans are in lockstep over there. This isn't the Senate where we can slow things down or do other things. There the majority gets what it wants when it wants how it wants and the minority just takes it. Unless you are going to send the lady a magic wand and a decoder ring you are expecting way too much.

11. I disagree somewhat, but...
I give her credit for the fact that she's still standing, you're right in the fact that it's not easy to be the minority. Still on many house votes I notice a good 20-30 sway votes on both sides of the isle. Tom DeLay and the rules committee can be ass-holes all they want, 226 (I think that's the number) GOP congressmen/women have 226 seperate districts to represent and I don't think that all of them agree with Tom DeLay all the time.

8. Pelosi didnt sell out?
Edited on Sun Oct-19-03 12:25 AM by JohnKleeb
Gephardt was still minority leader Alex, and did I mention she led the charge with DK against IWR. She's a good lady I think. I wouldnt mind DK with this position but Nancy is a good congresswoman and didnt sell us out.

14. DK for president now = idealistic
Simply because he's going to run out of money. If DK runs in the next democratic primary I think he'll have a better shot.

15. and damn proud of it, idealism is a good thing imo
I dunno really. We did exceed our goal Tron, only of two who did, we may not have the money that Dean for America does, but we are just as grassroots, and we have heart too of course all do but thats one of the things we are all about,

RFK would agree: "We must get things done. But if there was one thing that President Kennedy stood for that touched the most profound feeling of young people across the world, it was the belief that idealism, high aspiration and deep convictions are not incompatible with the most practical and efficient of programs"
That is from the Address of Senator Robert F. Kennedy: Day of Affirmation, University of Capetown, South Africa, June 6, 1966
Wow and exactly two years to the day of his untimely death.

16. When is the filing deadline?
When does he have to file to run for Representative? Will he do so, if he hasn't withdrawn from the race for President? If not, he won't be eligible to run for Speaker at all.
