And now.....a note from Kansas
Edited on Thu Dec-08-05 11:04 PM by Scout1071
As a Kansan and a member of DU, I have suffered a great deal as of late. While a small handful of people in my State have acted like real twits, the every day average Kansan moves on. We are not terrible. We are not backward. We do not live in the 12th Century. We do have four unbelievable assholes that made their way onto the school board. This will be corrected in the next election. How do I know? Even the Kansas Republicans have had enough according this Lawrence Journal World article. The Bob Dole type Republicans. Say what you will about Bob, but he is no fundamentalist. You know when the Kansan Republicans pull away from the hard right, they are in some serious trouble nationwide.

And with that....I present this delicious article: http://www2.ljworld.com/news/2005/dec/08/gop_group_pledges_disempower_far_right/?kansas_legislature

GOP group pledges to disempower far right

Topeka — The split among Kansas Republicans widened Wednesday as a GOP group vowed to defeat “extremists” within the party, including several elected officials.

The Kansas Traditional Republican Majority said it would try to steer the GOP away from “the politics of hate and intolerance” and toward a more moderate agenda, chairman Andy Wollen said.

“We will no longer concede the good Republican name to extremist Republicans who push a narrow social agenda but lack any real solutions to the problems facing Kansas,” Wollen said.

2. Thomas Frank calls them the Mods
I think they are only slightly less bad than the Cons. The Cons want a theocracy, the Mods want a Corporate Oligarchy. Gee, what choices.

4. we KNEW there were intelligent people in kansas, and not just limited to
DU'ers. but it is so nice to see evidence in print of this fact. I do understand how you feel, believe me, since I currently share my town with some of the worst of the fundamentalists--including james dobson and ted haggard and their little sheeples. The only positive thing I can think of about this is that I can call both of them regularly and excoriate them at length, for free.

7. Kansas has always been progressive, way ahead of the country
sometimes. It is amazing to me how this has happened to your state. I feel your pain.
