DLC to English dictionary & phrase book

A lot of the times, progressives and DLC types seem to be talking past each other here.

For example, progressives are often mystified when DLC types say we can't pull out of Iraq because it might alienate voters. This is hard for progressives to understand since the majority of Americans now oppose the war. But if we understood that when they say voter they actually mean corporate donor, their position makes perfect sense.



In the spirit of reconciliation, empathy, and party unity, I offer these translations.


moderate = corrupt, business owned

extremist = anything that would chafe corporate interests

party is in disarray = you aren't obeying our corporate donors

alienate voters = alienate corporate donors

We need to win over moderates and conservatives = not actual people, just their big corporate donors

Howard Dean doesn't speak for me or the Democratic Party = Howard Dean only speaks for actual people, not corporate donors

We can't just "cut and run" in Iraq = our donors are still making money on the war

Progressives are juvenile, immature, and unrealistic = you are frightening our friends in suits--shut UP!!!

We need to reach out to values voters = If we talk about empty symbolic issues, people won't notice we are screwing them on substantive economic ones just like the republicans

special interests = unions, minorities, the unemployed, uninsured, unincorporated

corruption = servicing corporations in ways that are technically illegal. This should be avoided by changing the law.



I probably left some out, so add your own.

NOTE: In an emergency, this also works as a Republican to English phrasebook too.

the more outrageous the DLC utterances, the more frantic and fanatic their pimpers are: it's almost like there's no connection between reality and rhetoric--a trait which they immediately project on us, a'course
And don't forget "fool," "embarrasment," or "trust-fund-brat anarchist thug" for "protester"
And of course all the shooter-looters, subhuman zombie drug addicts, turnstile jumpers, Runners, and other easily-blamed victims

3. Definition for the "Fringe Left"
I'm still trying get the definition for the "fringe left" - it seems to refer to those who oppose the Iraq war, but more broadly, those who adamantly oppose wars of aggression, invasions and occupation. Anti-Imperialists types, ya know? i guess that's the "Fringe Left" - but please check me on that..

my sources in the DU, who are closely associated to the DLC have not answered that question yet, though it has been put to them on a number of occasions.

Hillary Clinton co-sponsoring the ridiculous flag-burning bill - such an empty grandstanding gesture to that group. The rich corporate donors don't care, since it does nothing to their profits. You won't see her calling for fast pullout from Iraq.
