John Lennon's anti-Christmas song
Edited on Fri Dec-09-05 02:00 AM by Cocoa
Lennon launched the first salvo in the War on Christmas with the perverse "Happy Christmas (War is Over)".

Talk about subverting the true meaning of this most American Holiday. "Without any fear"? "War is over"? What does any of this Commie tripe have to do with Christmas? :wtf:

And so this is Christmas
And what have we done?
Another year over
And a new one's just begun
And so this is Christmas
I hope you have fun
Your near and your dear ones
Your old and your young
And so Merry Christmas
And a Happy New Year
Let's hope it's a good one without any fear
And so this is Christmas
The weak and the strong
The rich and the poor ones
Have waited so long
And so Merry Christmas
And a Happy New Year
Let's hope it's a good one without any fear

So Merry Christmas
And Happy New Year
Let's hope it's a good one without any fear

War is over if you want it
War is over if you want it
War is over if you want it
War is over if you want it

1. Yeah, I mean. . .peace, brotherhood, equality?
:wtf: The Christ didn't believe in this. He wanted Capital Gains Tax cuts and a slashing of social programs that help the weakest of society.

What a commie Lennon was! And what a great American Mark David Chapman is. :sarcasm:

2. did anyone see the A&E (I think that was the channel) program on
chapman? that was one seriously ****ed up person--went from being a serious fan to a religious nut job (funny how that seems to rot the brain)

12. Made me wonder how many seriously disturbed people
become extreme fundies? I did not realize that about Chapman. I think his family gene pool is in trouble, from the sound of their history.

being even more-so anti-hypocrisy.

edit: By pro-Christmas, I mean supportive of the spirit that the modern expression of the holiday alledgedly represents. Authentically Caring and Authentically Giving.

6. i always thought it was 'the old and the young ones...' rather than
...'have waited so long.'

but maybe i have been mistaken all these years.

nonetheless it is a great song and it always amuses me when the local FM station switches to 'all Christmas, only Christmas' for three weeks or so and includes it in their rotation.
Lennon (oh, hell, let's just imagine he's in heaven..." must be amused...

7. Can you think?
Edited on Fri Dec-09-05 02:15 AM by Raydawg1234
You capable of any reasoning? This song is about the end of the vietnam war. Christmas is a time of peace. Get it, war is over, peace. So peace is Commie tripe? Is war and violence The capitalist way? I doubt Jesus (if he were alive today you'd probably call him a communist for being anti-war) would agree with you.

We forgive you for rushing to a hasty and false conclusion.

10. Dude calm down.
The person who opened the thread was being sarcastic.

I thought that was pretty darn evident.

13. This is a non-issue...
Lennon was clearly being cryptic in his love for the real Christmas spirit (during the last war).

Were you around when the song came out?

17. Imagine no possessions
there's more than just the song you're pointin out.

In "Imagine" . . . he pointed out the anti-materialism, which would totally destroy the Christmas spirit today . . .
