Anyone else see Ted Stevens blithering on about Hurricane "Kortuna"?
Edited on Fri Dec-09-05 03:16 PM by SoCalDem
I just caught a bit of it on Cspan, but he was basically saying that when "Kortuna" came through and damaged the place is was because Clinton had cut funding in '98. He said the republicans restored the funding in '99.. The thing he did not elaborate on was why in the 6 intervening years (most of them republican controlled) nothing had actually been done..

He's such a nasty character.. I can see him hiding behind shrubbery, snatching trick or treat bags from kids..

1. I'm mostly familiar with Stevens from watching Jon Stewart
lambast him (streamed since I can't afford TV right now). He voted against the anti-torture bill, too, didn't he?

3. I didn't see it, but I never cease to wonder how these idiots get
a platform. DU should hound C-Span to get an hour a day on their channels. Then different DUers could get up everyday and present the real news. I think it would be known as equal time to set the record straight.

4. What is it with the GOP and mis-pronouncing Katrina?
Is it some subtle technique for trying to minimize it? Like we're supposed to receive some subliminal vibe that it wasn't important enough to even bother pronouncing correctly?

Prior to the ratification of the 25th Amendment in 1967, there was no provision for filling a vacancy in the vice presidency. When a president died in office, the vice president succeeded him, and the vice presidency then remained vacant. The first vice president to take office under the new procedure was Gerald Ford, who was nominated by Nixon on Oct. 12, 1973, and confirmed by Congress the following Dec. 6.

The Vice President Richard Cheney
Speaker of the House John Dennis Hastert
President pro tempore of the Senate1 Ted Stevens
Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice
Secretary of the Treasury John Snow
Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld
Attorney General Alberto Gonzales
Secretary of the Interior Gale A. Norton
Secretary of Agriculture Mike Johanns
Secretary of Commerce Carlos Gutierrez2
Secretary of Labor Elaine Chao3
Secretary of Health and Human Services Mike Leavitt
Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Alphonso Jackson
Secretary of Transportation Norman Yoshio Mineta
Secretary of Energy Samuel Bodman
Secretary of Education Margaret Spellings
Secretary of Veterans Affairs Jim Nicholson
Secretary of Homeland Security4 Michael Chertoff
NOTE: An official cannot succeed to the Presidency unless that person meets the Constitutional requirements.
1. The president pro tempore presides over the Senate when the vice president is absent. By tradition the position is held by the senior member of the majority party.
