A mentally ill person walked into my hotel room yesterday.
He was an old guy with a beard, apparently homeless, with the Santa Claus look goin'.

I didn't shoot him. Not even once. I just said a few words and looked at him until he found his way out.

He may have had a machine gun, or perhaps even a dirty nuke, but I didn't bother to search.

I've put a lot of thought into this, and I'm willing to volunteer my knowledge and services to the Air Marshall program.

3. Yeah! What kind of a patriotic American are you if you don't
shoot first and ask questions afterwards.

6. I used to work in a drug store a block from a city shelter that had
(schzoid and other mental)-wards of the state living in it. I was not in the pharmacy, but at the front checkout. There were some folks who came in my drug store who definitely seemed "elsewhere". Their syntax, when they spoke, was often very different. It scared me when I first realized what was wrong with one lady (as I tried to respond to a question or told her where something was). I made myself listen and try not to hurt their feelings. We never had any trouble with them, but then there isn't much that is threatening about buying toiletries and stuff at the corner drug store.

7. Then, of course

it's not your job to protect other people and the hotel room.

Or did the hotel deputize you on check-in ?

hotel room unless somebody tells him to.

14. "Inane" is having to be told to protect yourself and your
hotel room.

Look up the word.

15. This is intended as a response to post #7 - Straw Man . . .
Edited on Fri Dec-09-05 05:40 PM by patrice
Whether it is his job, or anyone else's, or not has no bearing on the use of cognitive skills with universal functions, i.e. Common Sense, wounding and dis-abling someone who is, at worst, of indeterminant intent. If the marshalls need more practice making these kinds of decisions and practice shooting people in the shoulders or legs, or whatever, then so be it. Or aren't people worth it, ergo always err on the side of "plausible deniability" rather than take the LEAD as a professional and decide something, instead of reflex Pre-Emptive, and Permanent, Violence! Which is the basest form of reaction, not that of a Professional.

If the marshalls need more practice making these kinds of decisions and practice shooting people in the shoulders or legs, or whatever, instead of Killing them, then so be it. Or aren't people worth it? Not worth it, ergo always err on the side of "plausible deniability", cop out, rather than take the LEAD as a professional and DECIDE something yourself, instead of reflex PRE-EMPTIVE, and Permanent, Violence, Killing people for what they might do rather than what is possible and more probable! Simple minded, reflexive killing, which is the basest form of reaction, doesn't apply human critical processes, not the behavior that is paid for, $$$, of a Professional.
They did not act Professionally, i.e. in their Killing-Reflexes, they displayed no expertise that would differentiate them from ANYONE ELSE, except those who would shoot Unknown Others in the Back, every time there's a doubt!!!

It's just the Expendable Riff-Raff!!

18. Why would you ask such a silly question?
Edited on Fri Dec-09-05 07:33 PM by BuyingThyme
Do you know of an instance where somebody threatened to have a bomb? Is there something going on in the news that I missed?

Do you know of a person who was in a sticky situation and decided that his life was meaningless because he wasn't working to the interests of others?

How bizarre.

19. You started this thread (and I think it is pretty bizarre myself)
and I'm just responding to your assertions and sarcasm (hope it is sarcasm) in your OP
If you can't comprehend that, then I don't know how to help you to understand.
