Meth prompts Burger King owners to require employee drug testing
Meth prompts Burger King owners to require employee drug testing

By The Associated Press Friday, December 09, 2005

GILLETTE, Wyo. (AP) -- Tim and Dawn Force say they implemented mandatory drug testing for employees at their Casper Burger King restaurants to curb problems with methamphetamine.

Speaking at a drug-free workplace symposium on Thursday, they said they haven't regretted the decision.

The Forces, who own Titan Foods, said they were losing money about $60 a day to theft. Sometimes the daily deposit didn't even make it to the bank.

Meanwhile, they had a turnover rate of more than 400 percent.

3. You got that right. I have known a couple of people who used
Meth -- good God were they fucked up. Not only that, but Meth ages you very quickly.

6. Yeah, but they are someone's
sons, daughters, mothers fathers, sisters, brothers.

Meth-amphetamine has been around in one form or another since the turn of the century before last. It was used by the Japanese Kamikaze pilots and has been used on our military personnel as "go pills".

The latest incarnation does permanent damage after a few weeks use. It burns out the pleasure centers of the brain. These people, some who were relatively normal to begin with, are never the same. It destroys their humanity.

Calling them "walking garbage" is really a big thing to say. Unfortunately the drug does turn them into something that is less than nothing and much more dangerous.

4. All due to solely meth use? Nice.
I recall working at burger slop in the late-80s.

Given the insane conditions, people would have WANTED to dope up.

5. What if they're nursing a cold?
Methamphetamine is made from the active ingredient in cold medication.

8. Could the high turnover be due to paying minimum wages?
Or is it easier to blame drugs. I would need some kind of medication if I had to flip burgers all day for $5.15 or whatever the minimum wage is in their state.

9. I doubt the turnover rate had anything to do with meth use.
I think meth is disgusting but the working conditions and pay at BK are probably just as bad if not worse.

10. Turnover rate of more than 400 percent?
Does that mean that for every person they hired, four quit?
