Is Anyone Reading "Dude Where's My Country?"
I am in the middle of it and couldn't sleep last night wondering how in the hell the Bushies keep on getting away with crap time after time after time. It is mind-boggling!!!

Is anyone else reading this?

I noticed in today's NYTimes Bestsellers that Moore's book is #2 (after South Beach Diet), Franken's book, and Molly Ivans books are all on the Top Ten. If so many people are reading these books, when is the outrage going to start.

On another note, did anyone see Babs "Evil Mama" Bush this morning calling the Democratic candidates a "sorry lot". Hey, Babs, look at your family pictures is you want to see a sorry lot.

Sorry, I'm really pissed today.

1. I finished it a few days ago
It was a great read. I think our question is, once people do realize what is going on, how are we going to take the power back from Bush, the Republicans and the Corporate masters?

I don't know the answer to that question.

On another note. The Blue-Haired, pearl-choked witch is flying her broomstick into Larry King's studio tomorrow night. Might be worth a watch. At least we know where the evil old crone will be.

2. Watching an Aging Bag of Bones Loosely Gathered

by failing integument is hardly worthy of interest.

Oh, you thought I meant Barbara. Well of course not; she is after all the first mother to King George the First. Her every word is to be cherished without question.

I can hardly wait for her much anticipated CD, Pearls of Wisdom, to be released. We are told that we will finally learn how to say the phrase "let them eat cake" properly.

My Oh My, my heart is a flutter with anticipation and the cotillion girls are breathless with giddiness.

3. Here's how you take it back
I've mentioned it several times before but this is how you take the country back and I'm not joking...

All liberals and moderates UNITE. Uncontested and undisputed they UNITE. They ALL VOTE for ONE candidate in every race- from mayor to president. It doesnt matter if you hate them or love them- you vote for ONE candidate against the republicans..

VERY soon..I'm talking within 8 years... the republican party will cease to exist. THIS IS THE ONLY WAY TO TAKE BACK THE COUNTRY- TO ELIMINATE THE FUNDAMENTALIST ZEALOT PARTY!

With the republicans GONE... a true left wing true liberal party can emerge pushing democrats to their natural leaning- moderate. It's extremely feasable and it will lead to unprecendented prospoerty for this country. I guarantee

4. I wish I could be that optimistic
but I'm not sure we'll have "real elections" during which to unite the next time, due to the shananagins of the optical scan voting machine companies. However, I'm willing to abide by those rules, and in fact I do vote in caucuses and end up supporting the candidate who wins, even if they weren't my original favorite.

5. Impractical Idealistic Suggestion
Works great in sophomoric college discussions but will receive no traction in the real world.

There are too many variables and too many points of view.

Besides, who will pay for all the deprogramming required to counter the impact and effect of Fox and Rush.

TV time costs millions, maybe billions will be needed.

Those ideas will only die slow deaths through many generations.

The only alternative is a revolution, but few have the stomach for that.

Essentially we are screwed and it will take decades to reverse the damage caused by the right wing.

Sad to say, but true.

11. Sorry to say
but that will never happen. The left is more commited to individual ideals ("well at least I voted my CONCIOUS"!) than to the movement itself. The right has been winning because their voters are good soldiers; they hold their noses and vote for ANYONE who will promote even some of their ideals. A libral can agree with 90% of a candidate's positions, yet still vote for another candidate who has no chance of winning (or not vote at all) because of the 10% he or she doesn't agree with. It's always been so, and I don't see it changing anytime soon.

15. I really don't
think it is a liberal or conservative issue. I'm at the extreme end of the liberal spectrum, and I've never discounted a candidate because of one or two issues. The real problem is that the general population is just plain stupid (or unenlightened with no intention of doing anything about it). I know several Democrats who consider themselves to be rather conservative, and they all voted for Bush simply because of the abortion issue. I couldn't, for the life of me, get them to change their minds. They are all staunch Catholics, and they are all against the death penalty. Did it make any difference to them that Bush is for capital punishment? Not at all. They went with their conscience on one issue, and look what it got them. What do all of these friends of mine have in common? It bothers me to say it, but they're not the smartest people I know. The moronic masses get fixated on one issue to the exclusion of all the others, and the media plays to this all the time. Did it occur to people that they were voting to fill the most powerful position in the world? Does the general population even think like this? Nope, they vote because of one or two stupid reasons that are 70% of the time completely erroneous. And, guess what, the liberals do it and so do the conservatives. We need to choose the best candidate for the "job," and in doing so, we need to look at the entire package.

6. Two words: mainstream media
that is how they're able to get away with it. As long as CNN, MSNBC and Faux are playing along, nothing will change.

8. finished it last week!
My favorite chapter was "Liberal Paradise" or something like that. The one where he cites all these polls that show Americans are very liberal. It made me feel real good!

14. That chapter was great!
I was getting pretty depressed reading all the crap Bush and the Republicans have gotten away with. I wasn't sure I could finish the book. (Still haven't finished Molly Ivins' book, because it makes me cry.)

But I loved the letter from God in Chapter 6! Hilarious!

And Liberal Paradise was just uplifting. I've read that chapter twice now.

9. AWESOME read!
He's really going after Bush*, and he had an interesting bit covering the oil crisis - from a future perspetive.

As for Mama Bush, she porked a loser and gave birth to a wretched little Satan worshipper claiming that God talks to him.

12. No - too many factual errors, and I don't trust the source
Edited on Sun Oct-19-03 12:31 PM by Selwynn
I am sure that many of the broader points made in the book are valid, but I believe their are better, more credible sources for that information.

I know people hate this stuff, and the criticize the site for becoming a "republican apologist" site. However, facts are facts. Just read the facts of the article, and investigate them for youself. Moore typically admits to most of his falsehoods, when pressed. I don't trust Moore, and I don't appreciate folks who are so deliberately casual with the truth.

http://www.spinsanity.org/columns/20031016.html

Read the article, don't attack the site, or the author or anthing else. Just make notes the the arguments, and investigate as I did, to see if the claims are supported by evidence.

--Edit: also read the other related Moore articles.

16. I'm only on the first chapter
and, taking your advice, I checked the site you mention, but with what I've read so far, I'm wondering whether you actually read the book. The issues they have with the 1st chapter are completely ludicrous. If you've actually read the book, you can easily see this. Anyone else care to take a closer look at this site? Seems like a joke to me.

Thats a nice spin attempt on his facts, but it fails to actually prove any of his assertions are less than true.

Nice try tho.
