The preview for this trash came on at the movie theater we were at the other day. The preview itself is enough gay propaganda to make you sick. It showed two grown men holding each other, rubbing all over each other, and laying on the ground together...and the theater was full of kids.

The whole thing was sickening.

He was very upset. He had been turned down by not just one gay guy, but five of them.

There's a whole sub-genre of fan fiction called "slash", that involves two characters of the same gender falling in love and/or having sex. It's very popular with a lot of female fans, who "like to know what the boys are up to". So, I predict that BBM will be a hit, at least with them.

There is an entire genre of fan-fiction about male characters from TV shows falling in love with each other. Man-with-man love appeals to lots of straight and bi women in the same way that lesbian sex scenes appeal to many straight and bi men.

I know "Brokeback Mountain is playing only in New York and LA this weekend. But I'd like to find out how it did at the box office.

I predict it will be very successful. One of the biggest hits of the year. It's getting rave reviews everywhere and the word of mouth and publicity (thanks, Free Repubic!) will make it a myst-see film for a lot of people. Myself certainly included. I only wished it was playing here in Chicago this weekend.

This is a film that's engendering a lot of controversy. Neither of the two main characters self-identify as gay. But the relationship...sexual and love...just develops naturally. Both Ennis and Jack recognize a mutual attraction to one another. And ultimately, one of them pays the ultimate price for it. It's a very sad, poignant ending.

It's the linking of stereotypical heterosexual male stereotypes (cowboys) and same-sex feelings that has the panties of the slack-jawed numbskulls at Free Republic all bunched up. "Brokeback Mountain" is slaughtering some cherished beliefs here. And that's what some ignorant homophobes can't accept. I read Annie Proulx's story and thought it was poetry. One of the most honest, heartfelt love stories I've ever read.

If FR hates it, then it must be a masterpiece. :-)

Brokeback came in 16th place. That looks bad but actually it's on limited release this week and the numbers that it's posting are a good sign. It's in 16th place but only showing on 5 screens. Consider that the number one film, Narnia, is on 3600 screens, once BM opens wide it should do fairly well.
