House of Blues in New Orleans Reopens Today
after hurricane caused repairs were done. The bar and restaurant on Decatur Street will be serving Lunch and Dinner Daily. And they have Cowboy Mouth, Dr John, and Better than Ezra booked to play the week between Christmas and New Years.

Despite what you hear from the right wing noise machine, New Orleans is NOT back to normal but in some pockets which weren't wiped out by flooding things are getting settled. People don't want to come back to New Orleans to maintain a Democrat Majority, they are coming back because it is home. Those with hearts of stone would not understand.

1. This is great news, BOSSHOG.
While I've never been to the HOB in New Orleans, the one in Myrtle Beach was lots of fun.

2. Thanks Bosshog!
That's certainly good to hear. A few more entertainment options open up each week. Now is the time to support the local musicians if we want to retain them.

Over the past couple of days, I have responded to posts here that suggest that it is OUR fault that we were flooded b/c we live in a red state or because we knew that the city is below sea level. It's really disheartening to hear fellow democrats spew such ignorant nonsense. I've also seen posts where people claim to be "growing tired" of hearing about our struggles. Lets put em on a flight down here and let them swim in our sorrow for a few days and then tell us who is "TIRED".

Thanks for posting BOSS!

7. They don't know what it means to miss New Orleans
I guess its also my fault that I'm bald. Those who are growing tired of me can put me on ignore because I'm not going to stop sharing news, good and bad, about the Big Easy. Lets shut down the port of New Orleans and see how fast they grow tired of missing what it provides; or how long it will take them to tire of $8.00 a gallon for gas. I'd love for someone to share with me the perfect place weather wise to live in this world.

Grey's busline will start a "Hurricane" tour through New Orleans starting next month. Part of the revenue will go towards hurricane relief. I'm not sure where I stand on that idea. Hard to think of a destroyed neighborhood as being a tourist attraction. I guess it'll be like a Swamp Tour, the bus can pick you up by your Hotel.

3. House of Blues is the MacDonalds franchise of blues bars.
The French Quarter is reopening and NO will exist as a tourist attraction but the city died late last august, murdered by the Bush Cabal. We will get a disneyland plasticized recreation of what was once a free spirited open wild vibrant center of american culture.

I'm happy that some of the musicians will be able to keep playing. But from what I have been reading, the crime agains the city and people of New Orleans is an ongoing outrage.

5. let's keep that from happening by continuing to apply pressure
Remind Congress about the federal response to 9/11 and money spent on nation building in Iraq.
Support Louisiana's Democratic legislators who will take the floor soon and request support from the Republican controlled Legislature.

ACTION ALERT:
Another Performer Calling for Anti-Gay Violence Scheduled for Chicago's "House of Blues"

CHICAGO - Barely a month after its cancellation of a performance by Reggae/Regga star Beenie Man due to homophobic lyrics, Chicago's "House of Blues" nightclub has booked another Jamaican singer, "Capleton," who calls for "burning," "shooting"and otherwise doing violence against Lesbians and Gays. Capleton is scheduled for an appearance at the club, 329 N. Dearborn Street, Chicago, on September 23, 2004.

When RJ Reynolds dropped Beenie Man from its sponsorship of artists on a national tour, House of Blues announced its cancellation of the concert, citing the company's policy of eschewing violence and promoting diversity. A few song titles and lyrics will show that House of Blues should do the same with Capleton, who also clearly advocates violence against LGBT people. Below are Capleton's lyrics in the original Jamaican slang, followed by a U.S. English translation with some notes on the meaning of the language.

From the song "Bun Out Di Chi Chi" {Burn Out The Queer}

Bun out ah chi chi, Blood out ah chi chi

{Burn out a queer, Blood out a queer. "Blood out" is a particularly violent, graphic expression meaning to chop, cut, stab, shoot}

Batty dem ah f--- and ah suck too much pussy

{Queers are f---ing and sucking too much pussy. In Jamaica, "pussy" can refer to oral sex in general, which is also considered sodomy}

Blood out ah chi chi, Blood out ah shitty

{Blood out a queer, Blood out a shit (f---er)}

* * * * * *

From the song "Whoa!"

Sadomite and batty man mi shot up....Whoa

{Sodomite and queer man, I shoot up… Whoa}

* * * * * *

From "Give Har"

Shoulda know seh Capleton bun battyman

{You should know that Capleton burns queers}

Dem same fire apply to di lesbian

{The same fire applies to lesbians}

The Chicago Anti-Bashing Network (CABN) believes that there is a difference between freedom of cultural and artistic expression on the one hand, and incitement to violence against a whole class of people on the other. Freedom of artistic expression does not cover encouraging others to engage in violence, any more than it covers shouting "fire" in a crowded theatre.

CABN is opposed to censorship, which is the limitation of speech by government. When we encourage PRIVATE individuals, businesses and other organizations to not sponsor someone who advocates violence against us, we are engaging in free speech of our own.

Just as we did with the previously scheduled Beenie Man performance, CABN is asking all persons opposed to the showcasing of pro-murder music to contact the House of Blues and ask them to also cancel the appearance by Capleton at their club. We suggest thanking the venue for cancelling the Beenie Man booking and ask them to act now to cancel Capleton as well.

No one has a "right" to a multi-thousand dollar venue if the owners of that venue choose to not cough up that money. No respectable venue today would hire performers known to encourage physical attacks on Jews, African-Americans or other groups. As Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgendered people, neither will we sit by and remain "fair game" for villification.

CABN is calling on all who oppose violence against LGBT people to immediately contact the House of Blues as follows:

Visit or write the club at: 329 N. Dearborn Street, Chicago, IL 60610

Phone them at: 312-923-2000

Email them at: chicago@hob.com
