Lynne Cheney: Offensive to even ask about prisoner abuse.
If you thought “Don’t ask don’t tell” went out with the passing of Bill Clinton’s nod-and-a-wink policy on gays in the military, you missed the news out of Washington and European capitals this week.

When it came to defending his policy on Iraq, Mr Bush wasn’t asked, and on the torture of detainees in the war on terrorism, Condoleezza Rice didn’t tell.

If that seems like an inappropriate way for the leaders of the free world to be dealing with such important subjects, consider the behaviour of European governments, whose response to reports of torture and secret "renditions" of terror suspects appears to have been to hold their noses and turn the other way....

Lynne Cheney, wife of Vice-President Dick Cheney, demonstrated how the administration deals with its critics in a recent interview on The Diane Rehm Show, one of American public broadcasting’s most popular radio shows. She was defending her husband against the suggestion from Larry Wilkerson, Powell’s former chief-of-staff who has recently surfaced as a leading critic of the administration, that his office was behind directives that had led to soldiers abusing detainees in Iraq and Afghanistan. In a surprising exchange, Mrs Cheney claimed never to have heard of Wilkerson, and when asked how uncomfortable she felt with such accusations, and whether she had ever wondered to what extent her husband might be involved in making decisions about detainee abuse, she replied in a steady voice: “You know that is almost an offensive question, Diane. The men at the top of this administration are good people. They are trying to do their best for this country and that I would take seriously any sort of charge such as the kind you have read is simply beyond belief.”

3. Note to Ms. Cheney:
"The men at the top of this administration are good people. They are trying to do their best for this country."

The fact that anyone would take THAT seriously is simply beyond belief.

14. Yep
And the whole thing with comparing it to the military ordeal is ridiculous. The "don't ask, don't tell" policy with the military and gay people still allows gay people in without worrying about causing problems with homophobic people like the fundies/freepers. "Prisoners" with this ordeal are being harmed and even killed.

9. "She was first disgusted then sickened...
as she stood amid men, their hairy faces and unclean smells. How she wished she was around women, caring, sensitve creatures, warm from a fresh bath, so soft to tough. This Diane woman, she seemed to have been assimilated into the grossity of maleness, she didn't seem feminine at all. Lynne wondered how and if women could learn what she knew, that the yearning pioneer spirit of our foremothers could free the shackles of bondage and allow the Athena in all sisters to fly freely among the clouds, while men grovel in dirt and disgust."

Or something like that in her creative writing perspective.

10. lynne, you're a scumbag and so is your scumbag husband and bush*
is an out-and-out idiot. Both your husband and bush* are responsible for some of the worst acts and actions in our history. History will pass final judgement on the whole lot of you, and I daresay, none of you will be looked on as "good people." I can think of many things to describe your neocon cabal and your trained monkey, george, but good people is not on the list.

Rot in hell.

16. The Barbara Bush "how DARE you" tactic....a favorite among the neoCons.
and bullying Republican sector.

Essentially, it is a thinly veiled threat and designed to shock and surprise, and put others on the defensive, which is exactly what they want because they are being held into account.

Its a type of bullying and reverse intimidation by those who are guilty.

23. Le'ts award Lynn
the official stand by your man Eva Braun award for 2005. She did get stiff competition from "ridding the country of gang violence (!)" Laura Bush. Both gave the zoned out 50's wife answer of "I'm shocked that you'd even ask that" when the questioning went beyond how to find the best domestic help and what cocktails to serve tonight. Laura is hazy on most issues, so she charmingly dodges the questions. Lynn has only the wingnut talking points, so she gets derailed easily. Then she gets snitty.
Yuck. I hate having these women represent America.

Patient: That's really none of your business, is it? I'm offended you even asked.

Same idea. People who don't ask, can't learn. And Reptiles are opposed to learning, especially learning about what they're up to.
