the thought of the sight of a penis made me think of the sight of a breast. I was watching a TV show about a female who was undergoing a sex change to male. "He" was having a breast reduction. It just cracked me up that in the "before" film, the nipples were smudged out so we couldn't see them, but "after" the much smaller nipples were shown in their full glory. Same nipples, same person, but? It's not the size of the nipples or fattiness of the breasts, either, because on another show, I saw a man have a breast reduction for gynecomastia. His breasts were every bit as female looking as you can get. They showed him before and after with no smudging out the nipples. The hypocracy of the whole thing just got to me.

I think I have mostly given up hope that we will change much. Instead the chasm between urban america and suburban america grows wider every day.

Are you talking about the same ad that I saw (serious question)? The one I saw looked pretty tame.

that was supposed to remind people of strip joint signage or something. The light against dark- the contrast - just itself was part of what made it seem like it was visible from across the room.

Of course - the mud flap woman also carries baggage for people - just by itself. While the picture with the devil fighting the man has no such connotations.

The baggage I was referring to - was a matter of how I expect men see it. I think that most men are not so clueless that when they demean women that they think women don't notice. I think men who are jerks intend for women to notice that they are jerks. To put the silhouette on the mud flap is like saying they don't care.

I can't think of any comparable demeaning icon that women display of men - can you?

Again, some people are looking for a reason to be pissed. If you try hard enough, you can be offended by just about anything.
