First, enough time has passed since this happened that people are likely not to see much reason to gripe about it. It done and long over with. Second, the administration has had the election and if it really is successful and Iraq becomes peaceful, they lose their reason for existence. This is resurrecting a boogeyman to keep fear out there.

6. They say it did just happen

a few days ago. They can't find out if it was Iraqi or US who did this. Report was guy had gained weight, covered tattoo and other things.

What I don't know is how they found out it was him days after he was gone. Fingerprints checked then?
