Anti-Semitism and the 'war on Christmas'
Edited on Fri Dec-16-05 10:36 AM by ck4829
Concerned Women for America Spokesman Compares “War on Christmas” to Nazi Europe

Robert Knight, director of Concerned Women for America’s Culture and Family Institute, appeared on the CNN program “Live From” to discuss the so-called “war on Christmas.” Knight, who previously asserted that saying “Happy Holidays” is an “overt attack on Christmas and ultimately the Christian faith,” told CNN that the Christmas situation in America today is similar to when the Nazis took control of Austria.

Columnist Claims “Jewish Grinch” Stole Christmas

Author and columnist Burt Prelutsky blames “fellow Jews” for the war on Christmas in his article “The Jewish Grinch who stole Christmas.” “When it comes to pushing the multicultural, anti-Christian, agenda, you find Jewish judges, Jewish journalists, and the ACLU, at the forefront.” He goes on to explain that, “anti-Semitism is no longer a problem in society; it’s been replaced by a rampant anti-Christianity. For example, the hatred spewed towards George W. Bush has far less to do with his policies than it does with his religion.” Prelutsky continues, “I am getting the idea that too many Jews won’t be happy until they pull off their own version of the Spanish Inquisition, forcing Christians to either deny their faith and convert to agnosticism or suffer the consequences. I should point out that many of these people abhor Judaism every bit as much as they do Christianity.”

1. WOW.
There are so many inaccuracies and entirely fatuous presuppositions in Prelutsky's column I don't even know where to start. It's making my head swim.

2. Damn
I never looked at it from THAT perspective before.

Geez, I can't stand this crap.

I think "they" WON THE FREAKING WAR ON CHRISTMAS

at least if you look at the number of posts here about it (and I'm as guilty as anybody.)

We certainly appear to be freaked, as a group, at this wedge issue and we give it a LOT of bandwidth.

6. Bingo.
The fact that it's even such an all-pervasive discussion is a major victory for the right-wing noisemakers.

8. There's certainly a lot on DU, but a web forum can expand for extra news
and views, so the 'other stuff' is still there. It's broadcasters, who have limited time, and papers, who are unliekly to add extra pages, but instead will bump other stories down (or out) that are the problem. I'm British - is it your impression that this is taking up real media space in the USA (ignore Fox News)? I do seem to see quite a few references to CNN broadcasting on it - in which case they may be winning (at least in terms of occupying valuable media space).

9. That's a good question and one I can't answer at the
moment. I live with a two-year old who melts down about 5:30 each day and we calm him with Sponge Bob Square Pants. I haven't seen news media in weeks.

3. Anti-Semitism, U.N.-Bashing Color History of “War on Christmas"
http://thinkprogress.org/2005/12/05/christmas-conspiracy

Anti-Semitism, U.N.-Bashing Color History of “War on Christmas” Conspiracy The right-wing’s “War on Christmas” conspiracy rhetoric isn’t at all new, though the scapegoats have changed some.

In the 1921 screed “The International Jew: The World’s Foremost Problem,” automaker and notorious anti-Semite Henry Ford observed that “most people had a hard time finding Christmas cards that indicated in any way that Christmas commemorated Someone’s Birth.” He noted menacingly, “Now, all this begins with the designers of the cards.”

Later, the Soviet Union and the United Nations were fingered for plotting to undermine Christmas. A 1959 John Birch Society pamphlet stated, “One of the techniques now being applied by the Reds to weaken the pillar of religion in our country is the drive to take Christ out of Christmas — to denude the event of its religious meaning.” The writer sounded the alarm: “Department stores throughout the country are to utilize UN symbols and emblems as Christmas decorations.”

Fox’s Bill O’Reilly to Jewish caller: “You have a predominantly Christian nation. … And you don’t wanna hear about it? Come on, — if you are really offended, you gotta go to Israel.”

Fox’s John Gibson: “The wagers of this war on Christmas are a cabal of secularists, so-called humanists, trial lawyers, cultural relativists, and liberal, guilt-wracked Christians — not just Jewish people.”

..much more..

11. I was told once by a stupid redneck relative
That Jesus was made from God, so he wasn't Jewish "racially," and since he was the Christ, he also wasn't Jewish religiously. OMG.

Oy vay...

5. My jaw dropped when I saw a "respectable" web outlet like Town Hall
publishing a piece of grotesque anti-Semitic trash like that "Grinch" thing.

I expect the wingnuts to at least maintain a teensy veneer of religious tolerance. I guess all bets are off when it comes to a chance, any chance, to bash the hated ACLU.

10. Total tripe.
I can't believe they are claiming this.

Jews have nothing to do with the so-called war on christmas, it's these so called "christians" who have hijacked a pagan holiday along with all the trimmings claiming it for their own, and sold it out to corporate intrests.

There should be a war for "christmas" to save it from the overt commercialism it has sunk into. I wouldn't want to deny my Jewish or Jewish friends their Holiday any more than I would want mine denied me, but the more these idiots whine about the non-existant war on christmas the more I'm starting to think the puritans had the right idea about christmas.

Happy Hannukkah / Shalom and Salaam Aliekum.
