Ben Stein: Bush will go down in history as "great peacemaker"
On the December 15 edition of Fox News' Your World with Neil Cavuto, Fox News contributor and former Nixon speechwriter Ben Stein announced that President Bush "is going to go down in history as one of the great peacemakers and democracy-builders in the history of the world." Stein further predicted: "I think his reputation is going to grow by leaps and bounds after this . I think it's good for the market in the short run, although the market didn't do much about it today, as we know."

From the December 15 edition of Fox News' Your World with Neil Cavuto:

CAVUTO: Ben Stein, Ben Stein? What say you?

STEIN: I think it's an incredible plus for Mr. Bush. I think Mr. Bush is going to go down in history as one of the great peacemakers and democracy-builders in the history of the world. I think his reputation is going to grow by leaps and bounds after this. I think it's good for the market in the short run, although the market didn't do much about it today, as we know. But let's say it saves us 100 or $200 billion over the next couple of years as troop withdrawals start. That's a small amount in the context of the budget. This market -- the budget and the GDP -- this market is looking for an end to the Fed march towards higher interest rates, and that's got to happen. This just makes no sense for the Fed to keep raising interest rates. And it's looking for a continued drumbeat of higher corporate earnings, and those I think we're going to see. Dow 11,000, it seems to me, is virtually a certainty barring a new terrorist attack, but alas, the election and democracy didn't make it happen.

I haven't laughed so hard at Ben Stein since his "Bueller?...Bueller?...Bueller? scene...

9. Shut up, you pedantic little weasel.
On the movie 'Dave', Ben Stein played himself, and he was on the side of EVIL! I can't comprehend that - does he have no logical reasoning skills whatsoever? He was on the villain's side in the movie, and that fact didn't even register with him.

What a maroon.

Now, his ugly mug is front and center in every bad B-movie the studios churn out. Conservative Opportunity Society -- ain't it wonderful.

He still has no talent.

Please go back to forgotten obscurity, Ben . . . Stiller, Schtick, whatever your name is.

15. Just like Nixon restored integrity to the White House !
Stein obviously feels his listeners are stupid enough to believe anything.

Of course, most Fox News watchers fall into that category.

17. Somehow, I doubt that Mr. Stein
I have a feeling that when they line up the peacemakers from all of history, I'll still be able to distinguish George Bush from Jesus, Gandhi, Dr. King and Archbishop Tutu. The blood stains on his hands will be the dead (you should pardon the expression) giveaway.

If Bush does for national security and democracy what he's done for the Dow......

Do these guys realize what low expectations they have to set to make Bush seem even remotely acceptable?

Gee, Ben, ya freakin' genius, how much do you think we'd "SAVE" had this misbegotten war never started?Honestly, to try to spin this war in any way as a money-saving venture is just DELUSIONAL! It is the most horrible waste of resources, human and fiscal, in American History.

31. And Viggo Mortenson says..
“I’m not anti-Bush; I’m anti-Bush behavior,” Mortensen told Progressive magazine. “In other words, I’m against cheating, greed, cruelty, racism, imperialism, religious fundamentalism, treason, and the seemingly limitless capacity for hypocrisy shown by Bush and his administration.”

Who you gonna call?! :D

34. I guess I'm the only person on DU
who actually likes Ben Stein. I'll be honest, I really didn't know his politics until very recently, so I haven't had a good chance to develop a nice juicy hatred for him.

But he reminds me of so many teachers I had in NJ that I've always laughed when he plays the role.

He started writing speeches for Nixon when everyone knew that Presidency was doomed. Having Stein back you up, is not exactly a good sign.
