How do you declare war on a movement?
(inspired by a C-Span caller earlier this morning)

Al Qaida and the insurgency might be properly termed movements. No army, no government, no structures.

They tried to declare war on the peace movement during Nam. The "war" on drugs has certainly worked well.

Today we have a war on an undetermined commodity and an undetermined enemy.

There are people out there who hate our way of life here because of religious reasons (read self imposed ignorance). Couple that with our country feeding the fodder by attacking the countries where these people live and killing people who do not feel this way (30,000 according to Bush). Now, add into the equation the number of relatives of the dead and their new feelings toward America.

Sucks, doesn't it?

Now ask yourself why so many Americans see our recent actions as acts of protection. Ask yourself if the rest of the world is as STUPID as the people who support this doctrine...

The end result? The rest of the world will eventually stand up to America the same way the rest of the world stood up to the Axis during WWII.

Thanks, Bush, you may have just single handedly destroyed the most powerful country in the world just to assuage your corporate handlers.

Is it time for our 15 minutes of hate yet today?

5. I have said this for ever. You can not make wars on abstractions
Any one who claims to be a Christian should know that as a fact. Does any one think that Hitler's thinking is not still out there? Many may have seen it foolish and gave it up but there are still people who think like him and I would say for any good or bad thoughts that have turned up since then.. A standing army is just not going to get rid of thinking what one wants. Sorry Bush. I do think that the thought that every one can have a say in how they are govt. is going around the world and it will hang in there.

7. That is delusional statement
The end result? The rest of the world will eventually stand up to America the same way the rest of the world stood up to the Axis during WWII.

First of all, comparing American of today to the Axis during WWII is ridiculous lack of understanding history. To compare what we are doing in the middle east today to what the Axis did in the 30's and 40's is highly insulting and scurrilous. I don't recall us trying to conquer half of europe and imposing our will on them. Remember the Iraq are voting in a free elections, setting up their own government. Hitler and Stalin were real quick to do those things. :sarcasm:

We may argue about why we did what we did, but I as an country we have given a opportunity for freedom to literally millions of people. Will it work? I hope so. Time will tell. Did we step all over ourselves? Yes.

Hitler, Stalin, Tojo enslaved millions of people and put to death millions of people. Thanks to America and the 400,000 lives we sacrificed as a nation millions and their children of these people are now free.

BTW, the rest of the world are primarily filled with gutless, spineless. feckless politicians who piss in our cornflakes at evey opportunity, yet run to us for help when they are attacked by a "undetermined commodity and an undetermined enemy"

Do I care if they hate us, not really. They need to get their own house of corruption in order before standing on their soap boxes and tell us we are wrong.

We can tell ourselves we are wrong well enough.

10. I disagree.
The elections are shams at best. The Pnac crowd is running the show... And that's what the elections are: Shows.

And to quote you: "the rest of the world are primarily filled with gutless, spineless. feckless politicians who piss in our cornflakes at evey opportunity, yet run to us for help when they are attacked by a "undetermined commodity and an undetermined enemy""

If you believe that you are on the wrong board. You might want to lay off the kool aide. Did you get that from Rush?

13. Rush Rimjob ???
Typically response. No facts to back up your post.

I point out how wrong you are comparing American to Nazi Germany and Stalinist Russia and you think I'm getting talking points from Rush Rimjob and drink Kool aide. Put down that glass yourself.

Please point out relevant facts rather than thinking I am on the wrong board. When is it OK for a progressives to think Americans are liken to Nazis.

The people in Iraq seemed to think their elections were not a sham based on their reactions. Even the Sunnis are getting on board.

Of course you can choose in live in a alliterative reality if you wish.

Hating Bush is not a hard thing to do. Not looking at the world with honestly is a lot harder. The war in Iraq was not our best and brightest moment, but if we can pull it off and make it work, I don't have a problem with that.

Hitler and Stalin would. The terrorist that cut off peoples head would. Isn't it a difficult position to find yourself, sitting on their side?

Come back to me when you have an logically argument to back up what you said.

Again typically response. No facts, just ad-homien attacks

I realize what you said was pretty outrageous and can understand you frustration with Bushco, it frustrates me too.

But to compare America to the Axis forces is too much for me.

Yes, you are correct. My english language skills are a bit rusty, but at least I don't hold your lack of critical thinking skills as a handicap as the reason you can't answer one of my questions.

It's interesting that you state I don't have a clue, yet continue to evade the simply question I asked you.

"Is America the moral equivalent to the Axis powers? "

Are you afraid to answer or simply don't know.

Since you think I am clueless, it would seem to me that you can easily dismiss my question with facts.

Whoa, A liberal arts guy. Believe me a college education is just a bigger key to open doors. Doesn't mean anything more than that. Been there, done that.

Didn't they teach you to formulate your arguments with logic or just teach you punctuation?

BTW, I'm busting your balls simply because what you said was completely wrong. You have yet to prove yourself correct that America is a moral equivalent to the Axis powers.

This war sucks, but it doesn't make us evil like Nazi Germany or Stalinist Russia.

Tens of thousands of dead in Iraq, no water, no jobs. Hey but war is messy, democracy is messy.

No Mr. Rumsfeld, you are a moron. Why don't you and Bush and Cheney all move to Iraq and spread your cheer while living over there? (you bunch of draft dodgers)

14. like the KKK
Al-quida is real. They killed out people when clinton was office. Clinton authorized killing their members. Rightly so.

Infiltrate, learn, bribe, and kill. The KKK was destroyed by the US government, as al-quida should be.

This falls under my enemy's enemy is not my friend category for me.

These guys do not play by a static set of rules. They can only be crippled by asymmetric means.

The war on drugs is an employment program for law enforcement.

Al-quida has, over 10 years, proven its self capable of killing its enemies.
