My Letter to the Editor about Bush's spying
Edited on Sat Dec-17-05 08:07 PM by Heaven and Earth
Dear Editor,

President Bush has publicly admitted to illegally authorizing the National Security Agency to spy on American citizens in the absence of a warrant. Based on this confession, Congress should immediately begin impeachment proceedings.

The President’s actions violate Section 1809a of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (which requires a warrant from a special court to begin domestic spying on American citizens), as well as Article II, Section III of the Constitution (which requires that the President “shall take care that the Laws be faithfully executed”). The president cannot claim “national security”, because he neither followed the provisions of the law for emergency surveillance, nor asked Congress to alter the law. This has been going on for three years, and the President has re-authorized this action over thirty times.

It is time for President Bush to learn that he is not the King of America, and he cannot blithely ignore Congress. The American people will not tolerate his royal pretensions. I urge everyone who reads this to call their representative and ask them to support the impeachment of President Bush.

Sincerely,

Name Removed

I sent it to the Chicago Tribune. What do you all think?

4. Excellent. ... but not enouugh. He should be imprisoned, too!
It's just not enough to impeach. Nowhere near enough.

The law calls for up to a $10,000 fine and 5 years in prison. Times thirty! That's $300,000 and 150 years in prison!

Furthermore, every citizen whose privacy was violated should sue for actual damages and punitive damages as provided for in the law!

10. My letter. Use it if you would like
President Bush secretly authorized the National Security Act (NSA) to spy on American citizens in clear violation of the 4th Amendment of the United States Constitution.

This is an impeachable offense regardless of the "911 changed everything" excuse, but unless this President has sex with an intern on the oval office desk in front of the media, the Republican controlled Congress will do absolutely nothing.

In fact they would probably say he deserved it for his great leadership in the Iraq War.

15. RECOMMENDED! That's what I
think! It's short and sweet..concise and right to the heart of the matter.

Impeach bush..the idiot confessed on the national airwaves..we should have known he would be stupid enough to do something like this..the crime and the confession.

18. Great letter! The only thing I would add is that Bush said that he would
continue to spy on American citizens in the future. That shows to me that he feels he is above the law and that impeachment is the only way to stop him from trampling on the Constitution.

DEMAND accountability. THEY are NOT doing their job. Demand investigation starting immediately.
