My God, CSPAN has reached a new low! (Not to mention the country)
Edited on Sun Dec-18-05 07:16 AM by Syrinx
Their caller lines are divided between "those who support DOMESTIC SPYING" and "those who don't." Geesh. What country and what century is this?

I always thought CSPAN was fair. But this is getting scary.

But seriously, the fascist tilt the country and its institutions are experiencing have me really concerned. I hope the recent eruption of bad news for the admin keeps up, otherwise I have my doubts as to the viabilty of the experiment recently known as America.

EDIT:

By that I don't mean bad things happen in Iraq (or anywhere else), I just mean the bad things they have done will be revealed to the mainstream. And it includes a LOT of evil. Amazing EVIL.

2. Latter on Today the question will be
Who supports fascism, and who opposes it. Which of course will be a great oppurtunity for the NSA to gather names.

9. reminds me of a paranoid fantasy I had once
The internet was created by adjuncts of the DOD back in the sixties I think. But it once occured to me that maybe the WWW was created by the No Such Agency as a way to lure people into a trap to gather all kinds of personal info, to build a giant database (once the computers were powerful enough) to catalog the views and all personal data on a huge section of the public. That section of the public that felt strongly about issues.

Before the President brings Democracy to the Middle East, how about restoring Democracy in America.

6. you should have seen brian lamb on friday
he was in a tizzy over the NYTs article claiming it could not be accurate because they relied on 12 unnamed sources! He had it all marked up with blue highlighter where it stated that. he was crazy!

Then yesterday the chimp admits it is true!

I agree c-span has sunk so low and it is all brian lamb the neocon's fault.

7. wow, I probably wouldn't have believed that a few months ago
But I do now.

Brian Lamb used to seem the epitome of impartiality, though I've long known he worked for Nixon.

But I guess it shouldn't be surprising... after all they "brag" they are "funded by America's cable industry." sigh.

16. I used to like to watch the Friday Roundtable
They used to have Pat Buchanan v. Molly Ivans for example. I considered that a pretty decent Right V. Left program and it was illuminating. I even occasionally agreed with Buchanan. That tells you it was fair right there. But I guess it was too fair. No more open fair debate now. It's all pre-decided before the camera goes on, and the corporate commercials are doled out.

10. Okay, I don't get it
They present two sides of a topic: the good vs. the evil. How else would they frame it for discussion?

Were the favoring the fascist point of view?

I just can't dis CSPAN. They are the only station that SHUTS UP.

11. I think it's usually "supports the president or not"
But they have the nerve to ask "support the president and domestic spying" or not.

See. That narrows the range considerably. You can support the "president" generally, and still be against domestic spying, or torture, or evil in general. But those that do still get half (or twice or three times or four times) the airtime. See what I'm saying?

Sorry if I left out "the president" in the OP. I was furious. At this point it shouldn't matter much.

:hi:

12. will they (the government which seems to have its hands in pretty much
anyone of the media pockets) use the DO NOT SUPPORT DOMESTIC SPYING list to go after those people with repressive measures for taking a stand against the bush tyranny?

That is indeed a new low! C-span offering itself up to do the tyran'ts work for him and make it seem like a democratic process, i.e., speak freely into the microphone: ARE YOU WITH BUSH, OR ARE YOU AGAINST HIM?

17. it's fairly clear that a long term of aggression is on the way
Edited on Sun Dec-18-05 08:39 AM by teryang
The defense procurement budget and the repressive propaganda and spying organizations are not going to go away even if bushco were tarred and feathered.

The problem is great economic instability associated with insecure and exhausted energy resources and supply chains. The American elites are disturbed by the challenges abroad and at home to their thoughtless greed and lack of leadership. They resort to a policy of war as a solution rather than devoting their efforts to economic adaptation and the developing a new social model with local applications of commerce, energy and industry.

The globalist, suburban commuter/ Walmart/ aerospace model is running out of energy, literally. The ancient Roman solution of rebuilding and extending the frontiers of the empire is going to result in wars which make Iraq pale in comparison.

no discussion on what the constitution says. In discussions re the invasion of Iraq there is no discussion re international law either. What a mess.

23. Lamb and C-SPAN Were Set Up By The GOOP
Lamb's a lifelong Repugnican operative (as are many on his staff)...the original concept of C-SPAN came about during the "dark" days when Repugnicans were in a big minority (late 70's...post Watergate) where they didn't have as much access to the "mainstreet media". This was a back-door way worked out with Newt Gingrich and others to get some GOOP voices on the tube...and without much, if any, outside interference. C-SPAN turned the cameras on the House in hopes to expose Democrat deal-making and other activities that went on, and also gave Gingrich and others hours of free camera time to play to their political base. Throughout the early 80's, GOOPies would flock to C-SPAN camera during the evening hours...giving long speeches that were seen around the country. The response got back to Tip O'Neill, who once ordered the camera turn on the audience...and the empty chamber. But, still, C-SPAN was serving as a mouthpiece for getting the right wing point out.

C-SPAN itself was formed by the large cable companies to keep the federal government out of regulating their business and to use it to subvert a lot of the local cable franchise laws that had required public service programming. C-SPAN filled the bill and is still funded by the large cable corporations...hardly a group of benevolent or civic-minded souls. Googling Lamb and some of the C-SPAN hosts can reveal some very interesting backgrounds...including Brian chasing around cemetaries.

Cheers...
