Just heard some crazed right-winger
who called into John Rothman on KGO to say that all Dems and the NYTimes were "suffereing from the incurable disease of 'amorality and lack of patriotism'." Rothman tried to get her to admit that 'amorality' is not exclusive to Dems in the Congress, but she would have none of it. Ranted on about Sandy Berger stuffing documents down his pants as proof of the Dems being in a moral vacuum. :banghead:

Unfreaking believable! SG

4. No sh_t ! I live abroad
and only hear this kind of insanity through streaming--rarely or never first hand. I'm still just blown away when I actually hear such idiocy in real time. As I often say to my students: "Je pleure mon pays..." (I weep for my country). These people should be interned for their own good, before they do any more damage to the rest of us! SG

9. Committed to the nearest
walled institution or secured facility--nah, just kidding. But, a way must be found to render them marginalized and harmless. Although they thankfully represent a minority, their clout far outweighs their numbers. They scare the bejeezus outta me 'cause there's no way to have any sort of reasonable exchange with 'em. John Rothman gave it his best but got nowhere. SG

10. you're too decent.....TG
the bushviks would love to mass murder us, so suggesting we do same to them (we vastly outnumber them; there are surprisingly very few hard core freepers who are also politically discerning, so we're not talking any huge number) sort of warns them this aint prewar germany, and the people don't believe our vital juices needs lebensraum (elbow room)

14. Well my kids' grandparents
die in the camps so "intern" is a bit scary to me.

But I agree. The other side tends to lump us all into one non-deodorized, tree-hugging moonbatted group and would probably at last enjoy frontal lobotomies on the whole lot of us.

The spying thing is particularly creepy. But I do enjoy the thought of the guys outside my house in the van listening to my life on the phone and falling over out of sheer boredom.

number those within the Democratic party. GOPers are by nature greedy and narrow minded, which contributes to the higher numbers.

6. Yes, the "GREED
is GOOD" ethos can only corrupt and demean. The moral bar has been slipping ever lower since Raygun's time--and the process of debasement has accelerated since the Repubs grabbed absolute power in all three branches. I never thought I'd live to see the day where I would be so ashamed to admit to being an American. SG

8. I agree that Sandy Berger's pants have never quite been
adequately explained, but greed and corruption at this point is an equal opportunity endeavor and we can find it on both sides of the aisle. And I'll even go farther and say that at the moment (tho not throughout history) the GOP has almost cornered the market.

11. Yes, there's still a big question mark
about "Wrong-Trousers Berger". Still, the Repubs have cornered the corruption market for the moment. God knows the Dems have had their moments of tainted glory--when they've been the majority party. All of which once again underscores the old saw that "absolute power corrupts absolutely". WE MUST GET BACK AT LEAST ONE OF THE HOUSES IN 2006 to reverse this deplorable slide into muck and mire. SG

13. You nailed it
absolute power is bad no matter which side. Checks and balances also works.

But here's a question. I am not a real student of history. Have we ever had all three branches Republican before? (I'm counting the Supremes, alto maybe I shouldn't just yet but they are getting there.)

17. Sandy Berger never "stuffed" anything in his trousers or socks.
That is a shitty characterization which was propagated by Sean Hannity, and it distresses me to hear people repeating it. He took some of his personal notes that were in the file to help him prepare for testimony that he was to give. He didn't try to conceal what he was doing AT ALL.

18. I stand corrected
I went and researched it and the only sources that say "stuffed into pants" are RW blogs. It appears he may have put things in pockets.

The CNN source said some archive employees said "stuffed into pants and socks" but his attorney objected to that characterization and challenged them to come forward and say that publically because he said it wasn't true.

I had no idea there was another version of this story, which is an object lesson about believing "common knowledge."
