I am a Dem living in Iowa. For those of you who don't know, if you show up to caucus and your candidate doesn't get 15% at your caucus site - you must be undecided or be convinced to switch candidates. Who then who do you plan to caucus for?

This is an important matter because this could be the margin of victory for someone like Dean or Gephardt, or even Kerry. I'm a Kucinich person, so this may be me...not sure who I'd support as a "second choice." Conventional wisdom says Dean will pick up votes from people like Dennis K, but these people usually HATE Dean from what I know...

1. well
Since you are out in Iowa and I am out here in VA, can you give me a Iowan's view on how Dennis K is doing out there, I would love to know. My second choice is Kerry.

3. Dennis K in Iowa
To be honest, Dennis is impressing people... BUT like everywhere many people are looking at "electability" or "fundraising" and factors like that, (not to say that's a bad thing, but not for me.)
Therefore, he's only polling 1-4% for people who've made up their mind.

While Dennis may not hit his stride until after Iowa, because his campaign is so grassroots he will end up lasting far past those who rely solely on TV ads and internet fundraising.

But to give you some comparison, Dean has close to if not more than 100 paid staff in this state, while Dennis may have 15 or 20.

Iowa has so many undecideds that it really could be anyone's race here. But it is only October...

4. I really miss the IA caucus
I lived in IA from 68-89 and am now back in OK (HELP!)

Going to a caucus is a lot more work and demands significantly more time than voting in a primary.

You have to really spend some time thinking about first and second choices.

And then after voting for the primary candidates (which is all that the media care about), you stick around and discuss the topics you want in the platform.

In 72 in Ames (Iowa State), a lot of older people got tired and left after a while ... and the college students put in 'legalize mariuana,' etc. ... and some people got very upset.

And then the whole first and second and third choice and the platform discussions are repeated at the county and state conventions.

5. My second choice would be....
More than likely John Edwards, I like that he was not born with the "silver spoon", and at least appears to have some connection to people that have to work hard for a living.
