Hunter S. Thompson. Here is something he wrote before his tragic suicide.
We have become a Nazi monster in the eyes of the
whole world--a nation of bullies and bastards who
would rather kill than live peacefully. We are not
just Whores for power and oil, but killer whores with
hate and fear in our hearts. We are human scum, and
that is how history will judge us...No redeeming
social value. Just whores. Get out of our way, or
we'll kill you.

Who does vote for these dishonest shitheads? Who
among us can be happy and proud of having this
innocent blood on our hands? Who are these swine?
These flag-sucking half-wits who get fleeced and
fooled by stupid rich kids like George Bush?
They are the same ones who wanted to have Muhammad Ali
locked up for refusing to kill gooks. They speak for
all that is cruel and stupid and vicious in the
American character. They are the racists and hate
mongers among us--they are the Ku Klux Klan. I piss
down the throats of these Nazis.

And I am too old to worry about whether they like it
or not. Fuck them.

-Hunter S. Thompson

Dammit I wish we had a "new Thompson" out there.

The poster said he wasn't afraid to say what was on his mind.

Not that he wasn't afraid of anything....

Now I remember you. You're the guy that cheered the employees of wal-mart for beating a man to death because he was hetrosexual, and "butch". I have a memory.

but his body was shot. He lived in a world of pain and it wasn't going to get any better for him from here on out. I can sympathize with him, I live with chronic pain myself. Sometimes you just get to the point...........

36. This is the same person that...
Posted here on DU one day about the man that was beaten to death by Wal Mart employees for stealing diapers.

He thought it was funny because the guy was hetro, and "butch". Nevermind the man had a kid, who now has no father...

So thats what we're dealing with here with this moron. I wouldn't give too much of a damn what he thinks about H.S.T.

44. Hunter was afraid of
living as the shell of his former self, requiring the assistance of others to care for his basic needs.

In short he didn't want to live with nursing home helplessness. His misspent earlier days were catching up with him, his body was loosing its resilience, and he knew it.

31. I'm reading it now. And I have just tried to read out aloud
to my wife an anecdote he tells entitled, "The sound of one hand clapping".

When I read it first, I found it very funnny, but for some reason reading it out aloud to my wife, I became literally helpless with laughter, doubling up and gasping for air. I'd manage to get one word out, but had to struggle like heck to get the next word out. And so it went on. I had to wipe the tears from my eyes at one point, to be able to continue, because my sight was completely blurred.

The passage about his test ride of a Ducati superbike was also hilarious, but not to the point of tears, gasping single incoherent words, doubling up helplessly and staggering about all the while.

8. A little over-the-top, as usual, but I agree...
.... I think the American way is now a cancer on humanity, and there are some very nasty people out among us who would support any kind of destruction , including nuclear, if it was done in 'the name of the American people'.

The events of the past few days, with the spying and everything, confirms what I said after the 2004 elections - I don't consider myself American anymore.

I'm 38 (in a day or two) and every guy my age has gone through a Dr Thompson phase. We grow out of it but it's a fun ride.
My favorite Doc quotes: "Jesus! Where will it end? How low do you have to stoop in this country to be President?"

and

"Richard Nixon was so crooked he needed two servants to help him screw his pants on every morning."

"Fear and Loathing on the Campaign Trail" about the '72 election. "Hell's Angels" is also great.
I wonder if you'll get into it. It's not that it's dated it's that I don't know if someone past a certain age can enjoy that kind of writing. That's no shot at you, I'm past that age myself, I think.

to see the gopig reich prevail relentlessly despite all done, what purpose is it breathing in and exhaling? What point getting up in the morning, and why have television (it's unwatchable) or radio (a horrorshow) or any news mags or papers if one's a political junkie? The mediawhores like Limbah-humbug, Owhorelly, Brite Hum, Bob Shieffer, Tom CawCAw, Tim Russert, Tweeter, les Blitzer, Friedman, Woodward, Ms Greenspan and Judas Miller, david brook, pat buchanan, michael medved, barone, barnes, blankley, julius streicher, glen beck, bill keller of nytimes, cnn, reuters, pbs, jim lehrer etc ad nazism- to see these traitors enjoying the only happyness in the land, like maggots on carrion...hey, maybe that shotgun isn't such a bad idea :( :(

20. You know what's interesting?
For years I've tried to figure something out. As a bicycle rider, I was always enraged when I tried to share the road with cars. Europeans do it. I was disappointed that I was not living in Europe. But I was horribly disappointed to be on the receiving end of the carelessness and brutishness of those behind their wheels. I had objects thrown at me while riding. I was nearly killed by cars that passed as closely as possible, without any sense of human value. And in fact I ceased commuting by bike altogether.
I came to the same conclusion Hunter did. In America, it is survival of the fittest. One must grab as much power as possible in order to climb above the rest. It is the opposite of what the framers wanted.

We have failed.

25. Yeah, it really seems to be the "I hate pedestrians when I'm a...
driver, and I hate drivers when I'm a pedestrian" syndrome in this country. Many, many Americans are extremely self-absorbed, and don't care about anything unless it affects them. If you're causing inconvenience to them, watch out!

Don't get me wrong -- I think that there are also wonderful Americans who care about things outside of themselves, but the former group is getting bigger and the latter is getting smaller over time.

34. similarly
I similarly retired my bicycle gear 20 years ago, after being run in to a parked car by a 18 wheeler
that cut me off. I think what makes the difference in europe is that the traffic laws are heavily
biased on behalf of the bicyclist. A car driver runs a serious risk sharing the same lane with a
bicyclist in that sense, a whole different concept of safety and respect for more fragile systems of
transport.

It is failed. yet the biproducts of this age will be a boom in canada coming times, as the liberal
fringe of the US migrates north and to mexico, where standards of living will rise and rise as
the retirees move south whilst the seekers move north. Rock and roll will probably only get better,
so learning an instrument couldn't hurt. Sex is still good. Drugs are still good. The ocean is
still fun to swim in. The rest of the world, ex-paradigm, the other 95% of the population of the
earth is not part of that insanity, and it will all balance out in the long run.

Overpopulation does us all in to a grey mediocrity of insensibility, indeed, no matter where.

41. i know a bit about his reported connection to
Bohemian Grove.
In a nutshell; he was kidnapped or something of that nature, and made to videotape some extremely horrific shit to shut him up because he has always been investigating the child sex trade. And his 'suicide' was right around the time when Jeff gannon came about and people do believe his connection to BG and child sex.
Hunters wife also said she just heard a click, not the loud bang of a gun. Which can suggest a silencer.

Just reporting a theory, hope i dont get flamed.

That is one HUGE conspiracy, holocaust denying, Bigfoot drives a UFO, Terry Shaivo is perfectly healthy, nonsense website.

The reason it fit so well into the JG story is that they both were happening at the same time, so someone with meds and an overactive imagination decided to spin some yarn...

39. Profane, But True
Not the way I would probably put it, but he was so right. It's too bad that this country was so screwed up that it made him want to kill himself. Oh, well--if I weren't on antidepressants, I probably wouldn't be here either. They keep me from feeling hopeless 24 hours a day. I feel hopeless for awhile, but I find the strength somehow to go on.
