Arghhh!!!! My Dish service has taken off MSNBC & replaced it with faux!
I am livid! I'm going to write to them, although I doubt it will do any good. Holy crap, Keith Olberman replaced with lyin' bill. Wonder what faux had to give Dish to do this?

Has this happened to anyone else?

1. That's surprising. I have both on DirecTV.
I thought Dish was the one that wasn't owned by Rupert Murdoch. Who does own them? Curious.

2. My cable carries them all
Are you sure they didn't just move MSNBC?

And if they removed it, cancel and get cable or a different Dish service.

3. write, call, call and then walk away
with your dollars if they don't reverse course. That's about the most effective thing you can do. What region do you live in? Call their competition and say...HEY THESE DICKHEADS AT DISH SCREWED UP THE SCHEDULE, CAN YOU GIVE ME A BETTER DEAL?

and watch what happens.

4. Basic vs premium cable
I have Comcast extended basic cable and it carries MSNBC. But in Florida my mother also has Comcast but no MSNBC, it's a premium channel there. Since almost nobody watches it, I've never quite figured this out.

17. One time, I called the cable co. to complain loudly.
One day, I noticed I couldn't get the Comedy Channel. I was enraged. I called the cable co. and gave them a piece of my mind, very loudly, then threatened to cancel my cable subscription. It was then that the service rep said "Um....ma'am? The Comedy Channel is now channel 60. (I said "oh" and hung up)!

6. just noticed it last night
I was looking to see if they were going to rerun this show about the U.S/Mexican border that I watched a couple of weeks back.

I noticed MSNBC didn't show up and found it was unavailable.

I also noticed, now that you pointed it out, I get Fox news. wtf?

I have cable and I have all of them, even though I never watch Faux at all!

9. Me too!
I was livid. I have just the 'Basic' package, as it gave me all the news channels I watch.

Until 3 days ago.

I ended up capitulating, and upgrading (which is what I think their purpose is in taking channels away)

11. YES! I loved Dish up until now!
I just noticed that MSNBC was no longer part of the basic service, I didn't realize they 'replaced" it with Faux News (since I use my own personal settings and I would never include "Foxnews").

Do we need to start a letter writing campaign?

12. I am a Dish Network Dealer..
Edited on Sun Dec-18-05 07:29 PM by capi888
MSNBC is on channel 209 ...I have it on the top 120. If you have the top 60 it isn't on. Do you live in Ohio??? One of the bloggers, said she had MSNBC on the top 60, but they took it off. It was a glitch...let me know! The top 60 does not carry MSNBC. Somehow it got put on some of the areas.

13. I'm in Tennessee, I use to have it on the lowest level
and then suddenly it was "red", about 3 days ago.

As a dealer, I'm hoping you may have some leverage.

Actually, my dealer has had health problems for the last 2 years (rural area, right outside Nashville urban area - very unusual situation)but I have loved Dish network. I had previous dealings with DirecTV, and hate them with a passion.

Please register my displeasure, and give me any suggestions!

23. I love Dish Network too....however.
I can tell you, that your area evidently had MSNBC on,as it was in Ohio, MISTAKE. what you can do is call dish....1-800-333-DISH. Talk to a service person. Ask them why Fox replaced MSNBC...also, I can just about tell you in TN, you have alot of RW people complaining that FOX isn't on their smaller package. TN is mostly Red, depending on where you live. The people drive the source. Here in MI where I live, you can't get either FOX or MSNBC with the lower package. I have the top 120. And I pay for it just like everyone else does. Its 42.99 for the top 120. Also , if you want to save $$ Dish offers to existing customers CLUB DISH, which when you recommend people to DISH, and they are installed, (please a local dealer) you get $50.00 off your bill OVER a 10 month period, for UP to 5 people per year. They take $5.00 off your bill for up to 5 people, for 10 months (Total $250.00 per year). I have most my customers on the plan. When you call dish, ask them about the CLUB DISH PLAN. So if your bill is 42.99, and you recommend 3 people, thats $15.00 off your bill a month. Then you can go to the middle package. Just for your information....Wish I could help, but I will tell you this, I know Charlie Ergen....he is a blue company who built his company from the ground up. He fights like hell in Congress for his people. He is no way like Rupie and does everything he can for the people. Cable, Directv, are all held by big corporations. Dish is large too, but it is owned mostly by the owner, C Ergen. YOur programming , is negotiated, every so many years. The price of the programming is negotiated.with...the broadcasters (ABC,CNN, CBS, etc) determine the rise in prices...
Recently , Dish took them to task and held, the prices at the same level, while the Cable is rising.
I hope this helps. I just wanted to give you some incite to the differences.
MSNBC has ALWAYS been on the middle package. Tennesee is Charlies home State...so he may have had many ask him for FoX...or his team of executives.

19. I'm in Colorado & I have the top 60. It just changed in the past week.
I looked at the Channel Directory they send out periodically & you are right -- MSNBC is not part of the top 60. Arghh!! I've had it for ages! BTW, faux is also listed as not available in the top 60.

What a disappointment!

21. I was just about to go Dish and This News has turned me Off!
MSNBC Sucks ...it's become E-Entertainment for the Masses...but I've always had this hope that if I got a Dish TV I wouldn't have to watch what I didn't want to. Seems that Dish segments it's choices just like my AOL/TIME WARNER...Why should I bother to sign up for Dish...It would offer me nothing but "hunt and peck" with package options that I DON'T WANT just like I have now.

Thanks for the post...I'll stay with what I have that I watch little of...but still would hold out hope that one day there will be choices to make it worthwhile the fees I have to endure.

This happened to me also. I live in CT and have Dish Network. I subscribe to the Basic package and love watching KO. I have the DVR set to record his shows. I went to watch the show and it was blank. I looked at the guide and MSNBC was no longer on the basic package- Ihave to pay more money if I want to upgrade. I am pissed and will be looking for an alternative.

16. I wrote to them via their site, but may write a snail mail letter, too.
We had troubles with cable when we had it years ago, that's why we switched to Dish.

BTW, welcome to DU! :hi:

20. Same here in rural WI
Dish Network dropped MSNBC from basic 60 this past week. I called and was told it was available if I upgraded my service. I have no intention of upgrading and I can't cancel because my satellite service is part of a bundle. I told them it was dishonest to make me think that I had MSNBC as part of my basic service and then to take it away as a ploy to get me to upgrade and spend more money. I really don't have any option except satellite since no cable is available way out here in the country.

I don't think they replaced it with anything except maybe another annoying shopping network.
