My family, and I ,love the Simpsons. Now, their Christmas special,
Edited on Sun Dec-18-05 07:25 PM by BleedingHeartPatriot
tonight, seems in danger of being pre-empted by the human cartoon, gwb.

Arrgh!

The Simpsons have more topical, human and genuinely funny things to say within 20 seconds of their show than gwb could communicate in 20 years.

I just needed to vent about this small, but not insignificant, impact that gwb has in directly ruining our evening.

Thanks, all, for listening and understanding.

That is all..:grr:

2. Thanks for that. One of the most subversive, popular, long running, main
stream shows out there gets pre-empted for the drivel that passes for a speech from gwb.

Color me tinfoil hat. But, mainly,I'm just aggravated.

3. You might find it interesting that the creators of the simpsons are big
republican supporters. In the opening credits, when Marge is at the Grocery store, the words "Long live the NRA" apear on the cash register display. It's on fox after all. I like the show, but just find this interesting.

11. Matt Groening's (the creator of the show) is a huge donor to the DNC.
Check him out on newsmeat.com or opensecrets.org.

Only Repub I know of, who's involved with the Simpsons is Nancy Cartwright (voice of Bart).

6. that was a joke
one year on a special simpsons they stated that the words "long live the NRA" appears on the cash register. i dont think anything actually appears on the cash register except for that one show

the simpsons creators are actually democrats. in case you havent seen there have been things in the background like "fox news, the offical news home of bush/cheney 2004"

just because it is on fox does not make it a right wing show at all. in fact in general the right wing bias of their news division does not bleed into the entertainment one. the simpsons is always making fun of fox news and fox in general. on a show where crusty was running for office there was a fake fox news show on with headlines scrolling by "JFK posthumously declares he is a republican"

ease up on the seriousness about the simpsons. it is definately NOT a right wing show.

Anyone who watches the Simpsons regularly and has half a brain knows that it's not a repuke show.

25. One funny poke at Bush was when
Homer (who was crusading for legalization of medical marijuana) says that he "could walk up to the President and blow smoke in his stupid monkey face, and he'd just have to sit there groovin' on it."

27. I still remember when the Simpson's had to go to "patriot" camp,
where they were indoctrinated into the "right" way to think.

They made an escape, ala the Von Trapps in the Sound of Music.

Funny as hell, and subversive in its none so subtle comparisons between Nazi Germany and our current state of affairs. MKj

being republicans.

A quick check of who those guys donate money to would've prevented the SMEAR. It's public record.

They donate lots of money to the Dems.

29. 'Long Live the NRA' is a joke. Sarcasm.
Witness: the "Homer buys a gun" episode. They mock the living hell out of the NRA and gun nuts.

"Waiting period? But I'm mad now!"

"I promise, Marge. I thought you'd never find out."

some great lines in that one.

33. You're kidding, right?
They are most definitely NOT repubs. The NRA thing, if it's true, is a joke. (I say "if" because, though Troy McClure mentioned that joke in the 100th episode special--at least, I think that's where it was--I tried to read it on the DVD once and certainly couldn't make out "NRA forever")

37. i think that was a joke in one of their specials
i read somewhere that it doesn't say anything since then i've tried to read it in the opening scene, but it goes by too fast.

keep in mind that homer actually fought Bush senior and turfed his lawn.

30. Caught the last few of tonight's Simpsons special - excellent!
Edited on Sun Dec-18-05 08:52 PM by Skip Intro
I came in where Bart was the baby Jesus, and when Homer began to drink some wine, baby-Jesus-Bart, lying in a manger, folded one arm over the other and blinked (just like Jeannie, with the magic sound and all) and Homer's wine was turned into water. I laughed out loud, and the rest of the episode was great.

I think Lord/King/Emperor bunnypants is on at 9.

Does screw the other time zones out of a great Simpsons - ?

I tried to build one when I was 15 but never had the handyman skills for it.

I still have all the parts for Tom and Crow, if you're looking to build another ;)

Edited on Sun Dec-18-05 09:06 PM by BleedingHeartPatriot
I wish I had one. I'm so impressed that you have tried to build your own.

I am surprised that no one associated with MST3K has made full sized Tom Servos or Crows available for sale to the general public. I would be willing to spend a lot to have one or both. MKJ

edited to add...by "a lot" I mean way more than I should and way more than the rest of my non MST3K family would understand.
