For the critics of the war, we have only two options :
Lie or tell the truth?

No. Victory or defeat. That's what the pResident said. Perhaps if he could for only once tell the truth. Just once. He might say:

The reasons we went to war were false. And I take full responsibility for that, the Intelligence does not take us to war, only the president can do that. Almost everything my Administration said about the war turned out to not be true. For that, I am sorry.

However, we are in that country and we have our troops standing in harms way. We made a mistake going in but we need to get that country stabilized before we can leave. I know some would like to leave tomorrow but we cannot do that. Although we screwed up by going in, we have to help that country regain some order. We cannot leave any place in chaos or civil war. That would not dishonor our troops - that would dishonor our nation. And I let history judge my mistakes.
=================================

If he would say something like that, perhaps I could better understand?

4. Or how about this....
"You see, it really is about the oil. As the 'age of oil' advances into it's declining years, we really need to have a secure foothold in the region, so we can assure American industry's and economy do not suffer. We must guarantee our standing as the world's only super-power and cannot allow China or Russia to gain any advantage over us. Now, we misjudged the Iraqi's, and it's taking a little more than we bargained for to persuade the Iraqi people, of the benefits in being our friend, and the disadvantages in being our enemy."

7. Well-said. You have enabled me to clarify my own thoughts.
I was TOTALLY against the war; but I've had this feeling tugging at me that it would be almost immoral to leave this country in the next few months to fend for itself. I want to see what will happen with this constitution, even if the odds are against it working.

And yes, it was how this crowd cherry-picked the intelligence and how Cheney/Bush pushed their own agenda; not the intelligence, itself, that lead us to war

If only "W" would have said what you have said so well! Thanks.
