Despite an earlier written guarantee, the House Republicans have inserted 45 pages of language into the Defense Appropriations Bill (which really needs to passed) protecting the pharmaceutical industry (because of bird flu). And, despite giving reassurances to Dennis Kucinich - in response to a direct question on the floor of the House - that ANWR had been removed from the bill, ANWR is still in the bill.

If this passes the House it will be up to the Senate to reject it, which will be difficult because it is a must-pass bill. This has NEVER been done before with the DAB.

B/c it sounded like it could have been a different one.

I'm just going to call defense appropriations DA from now on :P

A) Pass it over their own objections
B) Reject it and have to start all over again with the defense appropriation, which would be a disaster.

Theres no proof that theres oil there.

It will only delay the inevitable for a few years.

The funds used to drill there could go to REALLY making us energy independent.
