Doing some 'back of the envelope' figures, jet airlines consuming 63 million gallons per day are paying .04 cents tax per gallon and motorists are paying .40 cents tax per gallon, a difference of .36 cents per gallon.

So, the subsidy works out to 63 million gallons X .36 cents, or about 22.6 million dollars. Per day x 365 days = 82.49 BILLION dollars per year. Is that right?

While folks are freezing in their homes?

Congress just authorized $2 billion for heating assistance this winter and already provides $6.8 billion tax relief per month for jet airline fuel alone!

The drilling for oil in ANWR authorized by congress in the middle of the night Dec. 18th, 2005, will just about cover the amount consumed daily by US fliers, 1.5 MBPD.

2. Your decimal point is wrong in the final calcualtion
$22.68 million per day x 365 days is $8.278 billion per year. Still quite a lot, though.
