In 1856 Franklin Pierce, the 14th President of the United States, was the
first President to place a Christmas tree in the White House.

7. Who was the first?
Christmas trees were introduced in England by Prince Albert from his native Germany. I have no idea when the first WH tree was put up, much less who finally banned it, though it could be Wilson on account of the World War.

14. That's pretty interesting
Re: In 2002, 21% of United States households had a real tree, 48% had an artificial tree and 32% had not tree.

I'd love to see a map of % of real trees per household throughout the US. In Seattle, it is pretty "uncool" to have an artificial tree.
