Will schools soon be encouraged to ask children to spy on parents?
Children overhear parent conversations and are good little repeaters, especially if prompted by teachers. In some communist countries, teachers are rewarded for this information, or punished if the teacher refuses to comply. Perhaps bush has overlooked this rich source of information that could protect his fellow citizens from evil men.

2. they want our pest man to snoop in our house
i think they already encourage the kids in many different ways, and i am not seeing that people will have issue of this. we will say,........ they were doing wrong. whatever it takes. is ok to use children. a good thing. rah......

5. Yup
Spying and reporting is encouraged.

BTW, the DARE program has this nice little segment on syringes. My daughter told the officer that Mom and Dad both use needles at her house. There was a knock on our door later that same day -- husband is type 1 diabetic and I was on insulin for gestational diabetes.

13. No, they were "doing their job"
Officers from this same department picked up a drunk teen who told the officers the wrong address as to where she was drinking. They came to our house at 2-3 a.m. in the morning, woke us up and threatened us with "we'll be back if you're lying" when we told them they had the wrong place. When they went next door (neighbors who have since moved) and found the girl's stuff over there, they didn't even bother to wave at my husband (sitting on the front steps, smoking a cigar) and tell him "sorry." I did complain to the Council and Mayor about that one and received an apology from the Police Chief. He said the officer had to get back to the car to be with the drunk juvenile and couldn't take the time to apologize, etc. (Note that there was enough time to shine a flashlight in my husband's eyes and accuse him of lying.)

14. I'm not particularly surprised
That is pretty damn sad though. And just think, under the REAL ID Act, those sorts of yahoos will have access to those secret government databases for which NSA is collecting information. I feel safer, don't you?

CIGS PEOPLE!!!

He daughter told the D.A.R.E. officer that dad rolled his own.

You guessed it, the local drug task force tore the house to pieces!

4. Isn't that what all the testing is about
to find the so-called parents who abuse?

All it takes is a couple of questions added here and there, dispersed randomly throughout the exam, to raise the red-flag for special intervention.

12. Clever and funny page.
But I honestly remember my aunt sending us a schoolbook from Latvia when it was still under Soviet rule, and it wasn't as blatant or ridiculous, but there were instructions for the children to come forward with any information that would help them to be good citizens of their country.

16. Teachers already do this.. Not all teachers "use" the information
Edited on Mon Dec-19-05 03:40 PM by SoCalDem
but everyone who has taught, has been told stuff about families that they probably wish they didn't know....

A friend of mine was summoned to school because the teacher really wanted to meet with her and her husband before the "back to school night"..

It seems that Jamie had drawn some pretty interesting pictures and told an odd story about her family..

According to Jamie, her Mom was 7 feet tall with orange hair, her dad was 4 feet tall and was a boy scout. He parents sneaked into her room at night and gave her medicine when she was asleep..They had no kitchen.. They had a pet dinosaur, and her little sister was blind.

Carol, a redhead, was a few inches taller than her husband..he was a executive for BSA,Jamie had asthma, and they medicated her at night when she coughed all night long... the little sister wore glasses because they teased that she was "blind as a bat"..and Carol rarely cooked, so her Dad teased about removing the kitchen since it was useless..The dinosaur?? an iguana named Pete..

They framed that picture and it hung in their living room for many years:)
