2. It's not. Nixon just knew when he was defeated and he had
some sense of shame. He might have been somewhat crazy when he left office but I don't believe he was a sociopath. Powerhungry, yes. Paranoid, yes. But not a sociopath.

5. Then the admin was just spying on Democrats - now it's everybody
It was purely political with Watergate IIRC.

This stuff with the NSA is several degrees worse.

6. Media now work for the WH
that's the only difference I see. Everything you see on TV or hear on the radio (except for AAR) has the approval of the White House. And when the idiots hear the same WH lies over and over, they eventually believe it. IMO, between now and 2008 they will try something REALLY big, maybe similar to Kent State, and if they get away with THAT, there will be no stopping them.

7. the NSA wiretaps are far worse
The NSA has incredible capabilities for spying on citizens, far beyond what Nixon's plumbers could do.

Also, I believe Nixon tried to get the NSA involved in his dirty tricks and the agency flat out refused. Historians of Watergate may correct me if I'm wrong on this

Oh and Bush is brazen rather than defensive about his law breaking.

11. Bush has a stronger and deeper support among his
accomplices than Nixon had. Bush is backed by some very heavy and dangerous hitters. They will do everything possible to defend him knowing that his downfall could bring them down as well. In other words, he is very well fortified.

13. The NSA Wiretapes are potentially worse!
I think we've only heard the tip of the iceberg on this story. I suspect
there is more information that will come to light that will make Watergate
seem minor in comparison.
