Survey USA : 52% of Utah think Antiwar protesters should be spied on
Edited on Mon Dec-19-05 09:18 PM by grateful581
this is unbelievable! (well maybe not for Utah)

<snip>

Asked if the government should or should not conduct surveillance on groups that protest the Iraq war, 52% say the government should while 40% say no. 8% aren't sure.

Some participants at the Utah rally say the news domestic surveillance is happening without a court review is unsettling.

Dr. Lewis Borgenicht, Anti-War Protester: "I'm not a terrorist. My colleagues and friends are not terrorists. Although maybe we are by the definition of the Bush administration because we are not accepting their perspective, but that's even more disturbing."

This story is far from over. The President says the practice will continue, but we could see hearings in Congress on the issue sometime after the holidays.

1. That's actually pretty good, for Utah
It's lower than Bush's approval rating in the state, IIRC.

8. Maybe they figure that if God is watching them all the time, what's
wrong with his representative here on earth doing pretty much the same.

4. That's what I'm talking about. Americans deserve the government they vote
for. the rest of us just have to suffer or take some action.

5. I think it's more significant that 48% don't agree (including 8% not sure)
This is one of the most Republican states. If only 52% of those surveyed in Utah think this, it's a GOOD thing.

Bush got 72% of the Utah vote just over a year ago.

Usama binForgottens perspective.:sarcasm: Yea if NSA doesn't watch the Peace Movement they may put germs in the Great Salt Lake.

No wonder they keep sending Urine Hatch back to the Senate every six years.

By the way Urine - when can we expect that Phase II report from you and Roberts and the Intelligence Committee you've subverted. Shouldn't we be expecting a statement from you about now about how you gave the thumbs up on NSA Domestic Spying. You had to be one of the Congressional leaders President Botch went to.

9. I truly don't recognize my country any more. This is NOT the country
I grew up to love! We pride ourselves on calling the United States "a democracy."

And you know, I may totally be off base here. (NOT!) But I was always taught that one of the hallmarks of a demoracy is the right of the people to peacefully assemble, and protest the policies of its government.

Just out of curiousity, because I really don't know the answer: Did President Lyndon Johnson ever spy on all those kids who stood outside the WH and chant "Hey, Hey LBJ. How many kids have you killed today?"

10. I Have Never Seen...
...any ties between al-Qaeda & the antiwar groups. It's stupid & pointless to spy on them. The spying on antiwar groups proves to me that Bush could care less about terrorism. He'd rather destroy the liberals. This is why he needs to be impeached. He doesn't want dissenting views. He doesn't want democracy at all. When he once said that he wanted to be a dictator, he wasn't joking.

11. Perhaps some of that 52% were simply concerned that the polling call
was being spied on, so they wanted to make sure they gave the "correct" answer. :)
