Conversation with a RWer today.
Edited on Tue Dec-20-05 12:35 AM by hiaasenrocks
I had the following exchange today at work. (This is close to verbatim)

A guy was telling me about a History Channel documentary of WWII. He said one of the guys interviewed for the documentary said that the Allies should have bombed Auschwitz, thereby wiping it out and preventing further atrocities.

The RW guy says, "I don't know the guy's name but he had to be a liberal."

Me: (laughing) Why would he HAVE to be a liberal?

RWer: Liberals don't think things through. Bombing would have killed millions.

Me: (I ignored the "liberals don't think" comment; why even argue this?) Bombing wouldn't have killed millions. But it sounds like a bad idea, whoever came up with it. Sounds like something Bush would come up with.

RWer: So you don't think we were attacked on 9/11?

Me: Who said that?

RWer: I'm sick of all these people blaming Bush for everything.

Me: Many of us are sick of Bush's bullshit.

RWer: (physically coming closer to me) Like what? Name one thing.

Me: You only want one? I'll give you five or six, but how about the spying story that broke last week?

RWer: What spying?

Me: (explained it to him)

RWer: I see no problem with that.

Me: You see no problem with the president being unable to cite the authority that allows him to bypass the warrant requirement of the Fourth Amendment?

RWer: What requirement?

Me: The WARRANT requirement. Read the Fourth Amendment.

RWer: That only applies to personal papers and houses, not telephones.

Me: (stunned) Who told you that? Why don't you try researching that? You're wrong. That's absurd.

RWer: I have no problem with the government listening to my phone conversations. I'm not breaking the law so I don't care what they hear.

Me: If that's your preference, fine, but it's not legal.

RWer: There are lots of laws that are ridiculous. All the crap the ACLU tried to pass.

Me: (realizing that all he has is a litany of talk radio bullshit) You know what? I'm about to leave here and I don't have time for this.

RWer: Would you call yourself a liberal?

Me: (laughing) Bobby, I'll be blunt with you. I have no interest in talking politics with you. In fact, unless you have something to ask me about work, don't talk to me.

RWer leaves the area.

These people have been totally programmed by RW talk radio. They have no information. Only soundbites and smears and labels. Are they fucking CRAZY?

EDIT: This is the third or fourth time he's done this type of crap. That's why I finally drew the line at the end there.

1. Another DUer had a great
point to make about the spying. Next time you talk to this person ask them if they would like a president Hillary Clinton spying on him.

3. Ohhh, that's a good one.
And I would ask him, but I intend to stand behind my statement to keep discussions about work only.

What's great about this is I could fire him. Muwahahahaha.

But I'd only do that if he repeatedly starts crap at work after being warned. I really don't mean to sound like a Nazi about that, but it's just ridiculous.

12. Did you know Mr. Hiaasen wrote a children's book?
It's called 'Hoot', all about kids uncovering a developer's plan to threaten some ground owl's habitats. Very good, and great for getting kids interested in environmentalism. I love his stuff too.

5. They believe...
...that though Bush hasn't managed to vanquish any terrorists, he'll be able to vanquish the Democrats forever, and there the United States will become a one-party state, just as God intended it...

6. My RWer brother and sister-in-law are hardcore RushBots
I got an email from my SIL saying we need to send a bunch of Xmas cards to the ACLU so we can tie up their operation and give them a big ol' smack-down for their "attacks on Christmas." It was a typical, poorly written and extremely long wingnutter diatribe about the horrors of the ACLU. My response?

"I like the ACLU"

It took a few days to get a response (she was probably just getting up off the floor and putting her jaw back on) and she replied, "But what about them going after Christmas??!!!!1!"

I still haven't responded because I'm frankly just sick to death of responding to people who refuse to examine anything critically but instead let the TV and radio decide what their opinions should be. However, I think I'll have to come up with something, even if it's just, "Please stop talking. Your stupidity upsets and annoys me."

10. He probably slept through his Government and History classes
Edited on Tue Dec-20-05 01:26 AM by Gman
and never had an interest in either until he started being influenced by RW racism or somehing similar that appealed to him. Because he has such a poor history and government background he doesn't have the skills to even carry on the most basic of arguments. He doesn't have a clue how really bad and how very ignorant he comes across. Such are just about every RW'er I've ever known. I know one that was nothing but a drunken/druggie high school drop out that joined the Air Force to stay out of jail. He did his 4 years, got some job afterwards similar to what he did in the Air Force and miraculously became an expert on government according to the RW gospel.

RW philosophy is very simple for those of lower thinking skills. To the RW everything is black or white, yes or no, 1 or 0. There is no gray area and don't even start talking gray area to them. That's where they lose it. Their chosen dichotomies are often false and illogical too.

11. Another 9/11 hypnosis victim
Does Bush have anything to do with 9/11, besides the fact it happened on his watch? Does his little war have anything to do with it?
