"Pomeroy doesn't speak for all Dems" a rant from a ND paper. Powerful.
Edited on Tue Dec-20-05 01:39 AM by madfloridian
This letter tapped into my own feelings tonight, after reading the memos at the DLC criticizing Murtha, Pelosi, and Dean. This letter touched me because so many people are discouraged from speaking out.

Pomeroy doesn't speak for all Dems

The Forum and Congressman Earl Pomeroy, D-N.D., would have you believe that if you are against the war you can’t be a moderate Democrat. Both couldn’t be further from the truth.

Pomeroy voted against the will of almost all Democrats when he and way too many other Democrats gave Bush the go ahead for the most ridiculous war. I’m a moderate and I’m against the war 1,000 percent. The notion that if you disagree with this most horrible administration you are some extreme lefty liberal is purely asinine.

Pomeroy plays right into the hands of the Republicans, as does the entire Democratic party. I for one am sick and tired of it. And I’m hardly alone. The polls favor my assessment by far.

Every single poll will show you that the vast majority of America agrees with Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean’s way of thinking. He has been the only consistent, truthful, blunt and honest Democrat for the past many years. He’s the greatest thing to happen to the Democrats. But they are all too stupid to see it. Had he been our nominee, we wouldn’t have Bush and wouldn’t have a fraction of the problems we have now. Gov. Dean ran his state of Vermont as a moderate. He did so very successfully and very conservatively for 12 years.

Pomeroy said, “Dean wasn’t representing Democrats when speaking about the war.” Pomeroy and the entire Democratic Party are not representing Democrats anywhere period. And I’m a moderate! I don’t believe in extremes anywhere. The assertion that North Dakota Democrats have to cater to Republicans to win is obviously very valid but flawed. When are they ever going to represent the Democrats?

We might as well just lie down and give everything to the Republicans. Oh wait, too late. That happened a long long time ago. Thank God for Chairman Dean, the only one who truly stands up to the worst administration in history. I’m so proud to represent him and Democracy for America here in North Dakota.

I know how this guy feels. I am a moderate who has been called a fringe lefty loony by my own party. Just because I have felt this was a wrong war. Because I hate their excuses for it. Scott speaks for me.

1. Hooray for that guy!
:woohoo:

Yeah, Pomeroy is pretty worthless as a dem, IMO. I have a hard time saying that. I don't like to trash other democrats but after his comment about Dean -- ugh. As for the Forum, that thing is a pile of shit. I used to go there to read the news from home, but once Bush was selected, there was too much RW propaganda to just ignore and I rarely bother anymore.

2. I remember reading there about the ND Dems not allowed in a Bush rally.
There turned out to be a list, mostly DFA on it, a couple of other local Democrats.

We do need to demand they stop hushing up the ones who are willing to speak out.

3. Pomeroy does not speak for Democrats I know.
I believe Dean, Murtha and Nancy Pelosi are speaking for the heart and soul of the Democratic party. They are speaking from their own hearts and souls of what is right, which is not easy to do when there is such insane, never ending, hostile opposition yammering on and on with their mainstream media bought and paid for megaphones.

We are blessed to have leaders who care enough and have the courage to speak the truth about the abuses occuring by this Administration, and are saying what Americans need and want to hear, but aren't getting it from the bought and paid for media.

Thanks for posting Floridian.

5. Speaking for the heart and soul...I agree.
Trouble is that if you do that, you pretty effectively get silenced or humiliated...or both.

4. Another good one tonight....good to see.
This one points out that what he said about the troops be redeployed was sensible and should have been said by the Republicans.

Redeploying troops sends correct message

"What a brouhaha Howard Dean’s statement made: that it is time to bring home National Guard troops that had no business being in Iraq in the first place and we cannot win in Iraq. The Republican spin machine is up in arms asking what kind of message does this send to the troops.

In what manner has this administration acted to give the troops faith that they could lead a successful, yet all the while completely undefined, mission in Iraq? I hear the administration say we will stay until we win. Would the administration define what winning means in strategic terms and its cost?

Does anyone recall George W. Bush’s statement as far back as Aug. 31, 2004, when he said he did not think America could win the war on terror
but that it could make terrorism less acceptable around the world? This was a departure from his previous optimistic statements that the United States would eventually prevail.

Perhaps we should remember the message Republicans have sent to the troops: 1) failing to properly equip our service members with the necessary body armor to keep them as safe as possible sends the wrong message; 2) cutting veterans benefits while we are at war sends the wrong message; 3) forcing wounded veterans at Walter Reed Hospital to pay for their own meals sends the wrong message.

Talking about a strategic redeployment of National Guard troops that shouldn’t even be there in the first place sends exactly the right message to the troops – that Democratic leadership will defend our security without abusing or misusing our military."

6. When are they ever going to represent the Democrats?
I only want them to represent the people and that usually means supporting Democrats. Republicans have always supported Big Business and War over the people and that hasn't changed one iota but what has changed is that most Democrats now follow in the Republican's footsteps and the people are left hanging...
