Hey - when Alan "Torture Warrant" Dershowitz jumps ship, you know Bush is in trouble.

Alan Dershowitz reached the tipping point today on CNN's Situation Room, and Crooks and Liars has the video.

I think the President broke the law....It's not enough for the President to get his lawyers to tell him what he wants to hear. That's not the kind of objective legal advice that the Constitution requires for this kind of action to be undertaken.

Dershowitz further called for Congressional hearings and an inquiry into the power of the President.

2. Dershowitz was one of the enablers of this type of policy.
His suggestion that it might be okay to torture moved the boundaries of the tolerable and acceptable a little further out. Making a discussion about something as horrible as torture seem as if it were stupid, makes a debate about wiretapping seem a waste of time. Dershowitz disgusts me to no end. Why would someone who was always seen as a defender of civil rights suddenly jump ship like that.

I hope he lands in with the sharks. Perhaps he'll understand the damage he has done to this nation civilly, politically, and legally.

4. I saw Alan and Noam;
Chomsky in a debate aired on CSPAN recently. Dershowitz would rant and Chomsky would reply with citations. Dershowitz would then rant some more and Chomsky would cite... You get the gist of the entire hour!

6. He's right: it's another instance of telling Bush what he wants to hear.
He wants to do without congress or laws, so they give him the legal opinion he wants.
