Richmond Va. New Sheriff can't get inside the jail-City sues
Here's the story. The former Sheriff of the city of Richmond (responsible for the jail, court safety, and paper serving) lost the election but she won't let the Sheriff to be inside the jail. The new Sheriff ,CT Woody, says that she, Michelle Mitchell, is also taking documents out of the jail to be burned in a nearby county.

Oh two more things-
1.As per the city charter Sheriff Mitchell has been able to award herself as much vacation as she wants over the last few years. She basically works 10 months a year and gets paid for 13.

2. We found out a month ago that about HALF of the locks in the city jail (un air-conditioned ) don't work. We found this out when one inmate left his unlocked cell to beat another on to death.

Woody won't begin his term as sheriff until Jan. 1, and he is still fighting to enter the City Jail with his transition team before that date.

Outgoing Sheriff Michelle Mitchell has refused to let Woody inside the jail with his team. He will be in court tomorrow for a preliminary hearing about the issue, he said.

Now that he is a sworn sheriff, he is one step closer to making changes to the jail that will benefit the inmates, employees and city residents, he said. Until his term begins, though, getting his team inside the jail will be a top priority.

"We want to know who is working, who is leaving," Woody said, adding that deputies will have to be re-sworn once he takes over.

If access to the jail is denied until Jan. 1, Woody has plans.

"Come New Year's Day, one minute after midnight, I will be in that jail," Woody said.

2. It's a lovely place
I know some people who do work there and let's just say that come summertime (in Richmond Va.) the un air-conditioned brick jail building gets a little "gamey".
