Let's ask the Freepers
If the "war on terror" has made the first and fourth amendments expendable, what other amendments are expendable? What could possibly justify giving up any other other other amendments?

What about the second amendment? If King George asked them to give up their guns, they would do so with a happy heart, right?

1. Ha ha ha
That's what I was thinking when I read your first paragraph. I think that even the freepers might pause if they were told that they would have to give up their guns.

14. Hm, maybe try americablog.org or americablog.blogspot.com?
That's really weird. I click through that link with no problem.

Here's a little snippet for you until you get it figured out:

Gun lovers take note. The Second Amendment to the Bill of Rights guaranteeing the right to bear arms has just been repealed by the Bush Administration.

You may not have seen it coming. You may not have even realized it was gone. But it is. And any right you had to own a gun is gone with it.

Now, no one has "officially" repealed the 2nd Amendment. As you know, that would take a two-thirds majority vote in the US House and US Senate, followed by ratification in three-fourths of the state legislatures. That has not happened because it would be too obvious, and you would object. What the Bush administration has done is much slicker than that, and much more telling.

Real despots, real dictatorships, real tyrannies don't ask for permission before they take your rights away. When jack-booted thugs want to steal your most basic rights as free citizens, they come in the dark of night, you won't even know they've been there, and by the time you find out what they've done, it will be too late.

What exactly am I talking about? Read on.

22. Thank you. It's a great exercise in logical equivalency.
It ought to appeal to those opposed to "moral relativism" ... but won't, of course. Those who proclaim antipathy to "moral relativism" are it's greatest proponents - always conditioning their stance on whether it's 'them' or 'us.'

3. Give up their guns! What are you? Un-American or crazy?
There are some over there who would gladly give up anything if Bush asked them to. Too much kool-aid.

18. God-fearing, hah! Besides saying that he is a born-again
Christian, what has Bush done to convince them that he is what they believe him to be? I guess they didn't read that scripture about false prophets closely enough.

5. And another question
King George and his court have said over and over again that the Global War on Terror will last through our lifetimes. That is, we will be in a state of emergency and on the brink of battle if not in actual battle for decades to come. Surely as comfortable as you all are with Bush's arrogation to himself of so many plenary powers, you will be just as comfortable if President Hillary Clinton were to wield these powers as well. Right?

9. Giving up the 4th is a de facto surrender of the 2nd Amendment
Edited on Tue Dec-20-05 09:42 AM by Ouabache
I have told gun friends of mine that the govt capability to do sneak and peek searches invalidates their 2nd Amendment 'rights' in a de facto sense. Think about it. Under the Patriot Act, if the govt comes in and seizes your guns when you are not home, and you go to the police station and report them stolen, the officer at the reporting desk can be jailed if he tells you they were seized under the provisions of the patriot act !!

The same with Bush's new self-appointed executive rights that do not include our 4th amendment rights. If he thinks he can tap your phone with no court warrant, why wouldn't he feel he could raid your guns, in secret, with no court warrant.

So much for the old libertarian line that Democrats want to take their guns away.

21. What's good for the goose-step...
So if * gets to make his own laws and is now a dictator, remember that dictators get overthrown, and then new dictator's are sometimes put in place.(With electronic voting machines, the means is there, and Repugs are not the only hacking savvy folks on the planet, in fact I would venture to say that there are quite a few wiley gurus on the Democratic side). I would like to ask the Freepers if that's what they are called, what they will do when there is a Animal rights loving, Environment Protecting, Anti-War, Gay, dictator installed, who believes that the means justifies the end.

I would like for their imaginations to kick in - if they have imaginations.

>"Sir, we have detected that you have a gun in your house, and that you leave your dog outside on a chain in cold weather. In fact last week, we were informed that you didn't even feed your dog!"

"Please come with me."

>"What? I'm a Murkin Citizen!"

>"Well according to our records you are a terrorist. We have a camp set up where prisoners get to live like the animals we feel you have tortured and killed. We feed only vegan meals there, and if you will not confess your crimes we will um - re-educate you until you do."

>"You can't DO that! Torture is Illegal!"

>"Nope - that was before the last dictator took over. But we don't torture, we try to re-educate and rehabilitate, if you know what I mean - wink wink. Please step into the hybrid sir."
