Times Debated Running Spying Story Before Election
...but they didn't...bless their hearts.

<...> The initial Times statements did not say that the paper's internal debate began before the Nov. 2, 2004, presidential election — in which Iraq and national security questions loomed large — or make any reference to Risen's book, due out Jan. 16.

But two journalists, who declined to be identified, said that editors at the paper were actively considering running the story about the wiretaps before Bush's November showdown with Democratic Sen. John F. Kerry of Massachusetts.

Top editors at the paper eventually decided to hold the story. But the discussion was renewed after the election, with Risen and coauthor of the story, reporter Eric Lichtblau, joining some of the paper's editors in pushing for publication, according to the sources, who said they did not want to be identified because the Times had designated only Keller and a spokeswoman to address the matter.

"When they realized that it was going to appear in the book anyway, that is when they went ahead and agreed to publish the story," said one of the journalists. "That's not to say that was their entire consideration, but it was a very important one of them." <...>LA Times

2. Keller was the most bland of columnists
before he was kicked upstairs. No surprise he was whoring for Bush.

18. How does Accessory After The Fact fit here? - Or Obstruction of Justice
Edited on Tue Dec-20-05 11:52 AM by Sydnie
Why can't we fill a class action lawsuit against them as accessories by withholding the information?

AARRRGGGGGGHHHHHHHH!!

edited to add - If blivet** is found guilty, wouldn't they fall under the obstruction of justice here too? After all, they knew and did nothing to stop it. How about a "Good Samaritan" law? Could we use that? There must be something ...

23. It isn't after the fact. According to the Sociopath In Chief, this is stil
an ongoing activity. As to obstruction of justice. Doesn't that occur once a case is being investigated? The accessory angle is interesting, but I think they would have had to actually assisted in this crime. I still like aiding and abetting.

Hopefully someone in the House is going to have the cojones to start Impeachment procedings. Remember that all of their seats are up for grabs in 2006 and my take on it is that America is waking up and this is probably if not the final straw, it is very close to the last one.

25. I'll settle for aiding and abetting
Edited on Tue Dec-20-05 04:38 PM by Sydnie
I just wish there were some charges or damages we could seek for their holding of such an important story that involves high crimes and misdemeanors (so to speak).

There must be some sort of civil suit we could file as a class action.

edit - typo

9. MSM has put more lipstick on this pig...
than there is at Max Factor... and still are! Just look at how they are touting this overblown ABC/WaPo poll. They're pushing it as hard as they can, but won't even touch the wiretap story. I just don't know how we can ever get out from under this evil cabal when the forces that should be keeping them in line continue to prop them up. :grr:

about the war, all the articles by Judith Miller, WMDs, etc...And when Bush put his arm around them and requested they hold the information for security reasons, they bought the bullshit.
