Bill Would Allow Arrests For No Reason In Public Place
Citizens Would Also Have To Show ID

CLEVELAND -- A bill on Gov. Bob Taft's desk right now is drawing a lot of criticism, NewsChannel5 reported.

One state representative said it resembles Gestapo-style tactics of government, and there could be changes coming on the streets of Ohio's small towns and big cities.

The Ohio Patriot Act has made it to the Taft's desk, and with the stroke of a pen, it would most likely become the toughest terrorism bill in the country. The lengthy piece of legislation would let police arrest people in public places who will not give their names, address and birth dates, even if they are not doing anything wrong.

WEWS reported it would also pave the way for everyone entering critical transportation sites such as, train stations, airports and bus stations to show ID.

"It brings us frighteningly close to a show me your papers society," said Carrie Davis of the ACLU, which opposes the Ohio Patriot Act.

There are many others who oppose the bill as well.

14. There's still time to practice. Stand up STRAIGHT! Tuck your butt FORWARD!
Feet TOGETHER, toes pointing forward. Clamp those butt cheeks TOGETHER!! Stair straight AHEAD!! Now, raise your right arm directly from the shoulder, do not bend at the elbow, keeping your fingers straight up to a 45 degree angle. Now repeat after me:

Sick BUSH! Sick BUSH! Sick BUSH! Sick BUSH!!

20. Bend at the WAIST! Wrap your head AROUND! Pucker LIPS!....
...and you see, "Heil Bush!" just doesn't have the rhythm of the original. I keep getting stuck with that "Heil Hi*ler!" thing.

No, I -love- my Canadian citizenship

35. Canada is the banana caught in a cage with a...
...900-lb gorilla.

Our saving grace: we're a -feisty- banana :bounce:

Most of us know the first country the American Empire would grab would be Canada. And we can't even vote to stop it.

But we've got lots of friends to help us :grouphug:

4. What's up with Ohio?
I really wonder why Ohio has turned into a safe haven for neocons and their ilk. I don't see anything in its' location to make it so. Anyone from Ohio, please let me in on the history there. I'd really appreciate it.

18. No clue.
I just can't wait to get out of here. 10 years ago, both our senators were Democrats. Now they're both Rethugs - one worse than the other. I don't know what shifted or why, but there's certainly been a change in the wind. And the stench is unmistakable.

Taft is a disaster, but Diebold is here, and the Rethugs are firmly entrenched.

On a positive note, though, I still see cars proudly sporting their "Kerry 2004" bumper stickers, so perhaps all is not lost.

Woman charged for refusing to show ID on a public bus
...
"The woman who is fighting the good fight is named Deborah Davis. She's a 50 year-old mother of four who lives and works in Denver, Colorado. Her kids are all grown-up: her middle son is a soldier fighting in Iraq.

"One morning in late September 2005, Deb was riding the public bus to work. She was minding her own business, reading a book and planning for work, when a security guard got on this public bus and demanded that every passenger show their ID. Deb, having done nothing wrong, declined. The guard called in federal cops, and she was arrested and charged with federal criminal misdemeanors after refusing to show ID on demand.

"She hasn't commuted by public bus since that day."

30. Hey, in Ohio you can possess up to a quarter-pound of pot
...and just pay a fine. No jail.

And they'll still bust you in Denver under the state law, which, by the way, is also only a fine for up to one ounce. Someone they busted has already taken the city to court for not abiding by the ordinance the voters passed.

9. When Taft pleaded guilty to election finance charges
he refused to resign saying that he had too much work yet to accomplish for Ohio.

Now we know the nature of that work.

10. What does Taft care about public approval at this point...
People hate him so much in Ohio that he can pretty much do anything he wants and it just gets lost in the pile. Hmm sounds like another leader not up for re-election that we know. Barrage em with so many questionable acts that people stop paying attention and chalk it up to business as usual.

...was Kristallnacht.

And you have your concentration camps and SS torture rooms.

You've got your Nicht und Nebel policy.

And you're on the verge of getting your People's Court.

Bush is treating the Afghanistan legislation as his Enabling Act (cue Judge Dredd: "I AM THE LAW!!!")

Congress and the Senate are packed with rubber-stampers.

You're almost there.

16. settle down people
We all know that Ohio is Target #1 for the agents of Al Qaeda. We should all recognize the need for 24/7 military surveillance of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, the NFL Hall of Fame in Canton, and the First Wendy's restaurant in Columbus. We must protect Ohio's vital resources at any and all costs! The erosion of our civil liberties is the least we can do to protect the home of the Drew Carey show.

17. Drew Carey is a right wing pig
I'll go to any lengths to protect the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, but if Al Qaeda wants to blow up Drew Carey, I'll loan them a match for the dynamite.

And then I told him he was "dismissed". (I admit, I had witnesses around -- or I wouldn't have been so ballsy.)
