Mike McIntyre (D) is the congressman for NC's 7th Congressional District. Before we were redistricted, my house was in the 7th and I voted for this man a few times. He's a fairly reliable congressman.
I just sent this to him...
Congressman McIntyre, a few years ago you voted to support impeaching the President of the United States. At the time, the president's offense involved lying about a personal matter--an affair with an intern.
Today I write to you to ask you to once again vote to support impeaching the President of the United States. This president's offense is no personal matter.
President Bush has taken credit for tasking the National Security Agency to collect intelligence on American citizens on 30 separate occasions without presenting his case to the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court, as required by the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act. He further called the editor and publisher of the New York Times to the Oval Office to attempt to persuade them to not publish a story about this matter, and he has announced his intention to continue this activity until he leaves office.
President Bush claims that by doing this he is fighting terrorism. There are effective laws in place that allow the President to fight terrorism--and he broke them. Repeatedly. Then he attempted to cover up his felonies. This goes far beyond abuses of public trust straight to felonies that carry five-year prison terms.
The Constitution charges Congress with the duty to remove Presidents from office when they have become corrupt or dictatorial. President Bush has become both. Please take the lead in correcting this situation.
Thank you for your time.
