Kerry: White House spying unconstitutional, Bush excuse `lame'
By Glen Johnson, AP Political Writer | December 20, 2005

BOSTON --Sen. John Kerry said Tuesday that the domestic spying authorized by the White House "doesn't uphold our Constitution," and that President Bush offered a "lame" defense in recent public appearances.

"I think the president's explanation is lame," Kerry said. "The fact is that there is no wording whatsoever in the law that permits what he engaged in. ... And the president's claim that he has some inherent authority to do this -- against the stated intention of Congress not to -- is simply wrong."

2. Actually, we are the ones that need to do something. Kerry can
speak up and he can try to gain support in the Senate, but until "we" place pressure on our elected officials to investigate this further, Kerry's is just one voice. I intend to contact both of my Senators and my Rep too. I have had enough of no "Checks and Balances".

13. I have done the same.
Unfortunately, 2 of my 3 representatives are Repugs, and the lone Dem. votes with the Repugs more than 1/2 the time or so it seems. Nevertheless, I appealed to the Repugs' patriotism, love of country, and the oath for which they swore to defend our beloved COTUS. I hope everyone else will do the same as us. :patriot:

I have also contacted the local newspaper numerous times to complain about their lack of editorial condemnation of Bush-boy's lawbreaking. I must have pissed them off too much in the past, though, since I no longer receive responses.

7. i think so. the only thing boxer has done without kerry is jan 6
there are a few things kerry had done boxer hasnt made statement in..... otherwise they are pretty consistant with each other. if we just HAVE to have a competition. i personally would rather just appreciate each and everyone of our congressional leaders that speak out each and every time

8. January 6th WAS monumental.
But I agree that it shouldn't be a competition. They should ALL be speaking and acting in unison to remove the Boy King from his throne. The I-word should be pouring forth from all their lips and they should be wrapping themselves with the COTUS. It's time for them to make the Repugs choose - We the People or their traitorous leader.

10. So, Bush "doesn't uphold our Constitution," huh?
This is a completely worthless response. He is not taking a stand.

How did so many people get the idea that saying nothing is the same as standing up and saying something?

14. Nonsense.
Kerry's position is, "That's too bad; gotta go."

That's neither leadership nor taking a stand. If you think it is, you're not willing to fight.

4. I am happy that he has come out with a statement. He is right the
President's excuses are lame. I suppose it was "hard work" to have to go and get subpoenas, and beside, he is the Commander in Chief, and can do whatever he thinks is correct.
