I don't want my Life defended at the expense of my Freedom
Edited on Tue Dec-20-05 03:14 PM by rpgamerd00d
That is why this country was founded.
That is what this country has fought for when it went to war.

No one in this country wants their lives to be protected at the expense of our Freedom.
We want our Freedom to be protected as well.
If Freedom comes with risk, we accept that risk.

Stop protecting our lives at the expense of our Freedom.
We'd rather die Free than live in fear.

1. I want them both to be defended.
One should not be exclusive of the other.

Defense is a proper role for the Government to play in general. We can argue the specifics, of course.

5. Yes, those in control are not protecting anybody but themselves

and their power. The government didn't protect anybody on 911 and it didn't protect anybody during Katrina, and it didn't protect anybody during the anthrax attacks.

The idea that they are protecting you is totally fallacious.

note: I'm saying "you" in a generalized sense not "you" the OP.

6. No worries! Bush isn't really defending your life anyway.
His Keystone Kops aren't working hard to catch terrorists but to make work and tap political enemies. You haven't lost your liberties for security; you've lost your liberties for nothing. Feel better?

11. We lost our liberties to benefit power-mongering political profiteers.
We have been and continue to be exploited by the BushCO/neoconsters. We are forced to serve their interests rather than have our interests served.

They truly are American Dictators and should be convicted and imprisoned until they die.

7. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
You ought to consider changing your "moniker" to "PatrickHenry"

"GIVE ME LIBERTY, OR GIVE ME DEATH!"

That's what this country is all about. It's not about giving away freedom to gain more security---it's about protecting our freedom at all costs. The Republican Party does not get it.

But, you and the rest of DU does. Thanks again for saying it.

9. I think a classic Carlin quote applies here:
"Well, if fire fighters fight fire and crime fighters fight crime, what do freedom fighters fight?"
