I'm going to go out on a limb and support Bush's spying........
(e-mail reply sent to freeper friend by me)

Its now become practice for the government and the President to read peoples e-mails & listen in on their phone calls without search warrants. I agree you know, were all fighting terrorists and they are lurking everywhere. Hell, your neighbor could be one or that fellow up the street, the guy running the corner store. You see what I mean, we don't know they could be plotting something. They act and look suspicious, they are probably against the war in Iraq and don't support the President. I think we should find out just what their sympathies are.

I guess since the Congress really doesn't care about checks & balances, why should I. They too probably think its okay for their phone call and e-mails to be read. I shouldn't get upset, I trust them, heck they aren't doing anything wrong either. You know this war could go on for a decade or more according to the President. He says its necessary so I guess it will be necessary for the next President too. I just wonder what they do with all the information they collect. Don't you, they probably get some damn good tips who to bet on in sports and horse racing events. Boy, they must even get some real good juicy tidbits on things. I kinda feel cheated.

Can you imagine having this power. I do wonder how a Hillary Clinton or Howard Dean or John Kerry would use it should they be elected President. It could get real interesting. But then again its just me, I've got nothing to hide but I bet others do.

1. Just imagine the business intelligence that can be gathered by an
government "approved" competitor!

Better get on the gravy train of "government approval"! It's where all the BIG MONEY is.

2. Good answer
No freeper would honestly want Hillary Clinton to do like Bush has done. Hell, my hope is that most people wouldn't want ANY president to do like Bush has done.

3. what if they were
tapping your phone? That's the problem. If he wanted to tap suspected terrorists phones, he'd have gotten permission. They were tapping journalists, private citizens, democratic party offices, etc.
We've seen how this group operates.

4. Use the Clinton litmus test...
Ask any freeper "If Clinton had (insert Bush misdeed here), would you be just as supportive of him?"

5. that's a good test for everyone
The "Clinton litmus test" is a good test for everyone. We should also ask, "If Clinton had done it (whatever 'it' was) would we have also condemned him?" Unfortunately "context sensitive outrage" is something that all people fall prey to.
