An actual Dictatorship is right around the corner.
What can we do now? Someone, please make me feel better. As the law stands right now, Bush gets to declare anyone he wants a "terrorist." He does not need any evidence -- none whatsoever. He doesn't have to prove in a court that the person he's going after actually is a terrorist. No one even has to know about it. He can have that person imprisoned indefinitely with no charges filed, no lawyers, no evidence, etc. Anyone with this kind of power will use it to crush dissent and establish his or her own power.

1. Elect David Van Os AG of TX and he will not let these unconstitutional
actions happen to any TEXAN. For the rest of you you can move to TX or get your own AG. Visit his Web site and help us get him elected. <http://dvowhistlestop.blogspot.com/>

2. That reminds me of a quote:
"When they came for Jews, I said nothing, for I am not a Jew. When they came for Catholics, I did nothing, for I am not Catholic. Then they came for me."

I think this was Rodney King, not sure.

They take one little thing at a time, and then very soon we are no longer free.

Very Scary isn't it?

3. Communists ... not Catholics
And don't use quotes when you are paraphrasing.

13. The quote is from here, from Martin Niemoller
First they came for the Communists, but I was not a Communist so I did not speak out.
Then they came for the Socialists and the Trade Unionists, but I was neither, so I did not speak out.
Then they came for the Jews, but I was not a Jew so I did not speak out.
And when they came for me, there was no one left to speak out for me."
Martin Niemoller

21. Well, your quote is almost close, but it sure wasn't Rodney King!
"First they came for the Communists, but I was not a Communist so I did not speak out.
Then they came for the Socialists and the Trade Unionists, but I was neither, so I did not speak out.
Then they came for the Jews, but I was not a Jew so I did not speak out.
And when they came for me, there was no one left to speak out for me." -- German anti-fascist Martin Niemoller

4. Not "Around The Corner" Its Here Right Now
He had abandoned the rule of law. When one man dictates the law then you have a dictatorship. We were made pointedly aware of that yesterday morning.

8. Exactly
Bloody George's arrogance and defiance during yesterday's press conference were proof enough to me that we now have a full blown dictatorship.

7. I'm Afraid You Are Right!
I argue with people I work with, my family, my wife, etc.

They look at me like I'm nuts. (Sometimes I question my own ideas about this, but I am more convinced every day that I'm not nuts)

We have had an erosion of individual rights for years, in favor of corporate rights.

We have a more and more intrusive government.

We have a nationalistic bent to our country since 911, and it is fanned every time we turn around.

We are encouraged to be afraid, to turn people in, etc.

I think that we look a lot like 1930's Germany did, and the majority of people never saw it coming there either!

I just pray that people will wake the fuck up!

14. you are not crazy, my friend . . .
. . . not in the least. The comparison to pre-war Germany is very apt. No doubt in my mind that KKKarl Rove has studied Goebbels' playbook from the get-go.

That said, I think we are on the verge of Fitzmas. And THAT is gonna shake the boy king up. He is not strong enough or smart enough to withstand the shitstorm that awaits him. The constitution was written by brilliant men. And a few brave men and women, with the guts to put that document to work, will bring this cabal down.

The house of cards is starting to fall. The fuckers are toast.

19. It's scary.
It's like the Roman Republic under Caesar -- slowly but surely turning into an autocratic Empire.

11. bush is playing the bully in your face, he has lost alot and still
losing, thus, his predictable schoolyard swagger-he's a desperate man

-The Patriot Act is setting faster than the sun
-He lost Social Security
-Libby out/Rover will get his x-mas present from Fitz in 2006
-lost to McCain's ban on torture (even tho mainly political bush hates to lose and lose in the public eye)
-Congress/people are yelling for an exit strat for Iraq (they never planned to get out, thus, they never had a plan)
-Cheney, CON-di and Rummy have no international credibility (bush never had any to begin with, he is viewed as Satan's houseboy)
-they are stalled on 'packing the supreme court' - Alito filibuster
-Diebold CEO resigns, Diebold knee deep in Class Action suit (voter fraud)
-Now the TV Confession of George about his illegal domestice spying Executive Orders...the "I" word is coming out of the mouths of those CURRENTLY serving in the House/Senate
-via Murtha's courage, military clout and connections, he is communicating the absolute disgust and outrage our armed services have for this administration.
-Democrats and some Republicans stepping up to the plate in serious rebellion, breaking ground for the critical 2006 elections.

all the above has come to light in the last few months and more work ahead.

16. The solution to this problem is simple.
Explain to every conservative you meet that now the precedent is set, and inevitably, one day there will be a Liberal Democrat in the White House.

23. That's something I've been thinking about.
You make a good point; however, if they crush dissent, there may never again be a liberal President.
