11. I have been a nurse for thirty years and I have seen some
some strange things when people die. People smile and talk about the light and the gate and the door. So this is pretty interesting to me.

12. I think you are right to be interested, but truthfully I don't
think Barbara Walters has the answers. I will reserve judgement for after the show.

19. I agree, and I don't think we will have answers after the show, either.
I do remember passing medications one night at two in the morning and having my patient say, "Oh dear, I was dreaming about my husband and I was about to go to him" and the next night at the very same time, I went to her room but she had already passed. And she had a smile on her face.

interrupted by a rather lengthy phone call. However, here is a website you might be interested in exploring:

31. I had an OBE of my own so I feel pretty sure there's something out there
after this life.

Which is great, but again I wish Barbara would focus on the mis-administration instead.

Did she go there? Did she bring a camera crew? Why didn't she stay?

I'd rather watch the History of the Credit Card on PBS.

14. I'm sure the House rerun I'm watching is 1000 times more insightful
There is no such thing as death...
Just another state of consciousness...
Whatever that might be...who knows.

All I know is we've got some pretty good examples of hell on earth right here.
For instance, the inhumane treatment of animals.

16. My mother
just died on the 17th. We were raised catholic, so we called a priest to administer last rites.I am completely convinced that something took place at that time....I dont't know what it was, except that my mother became very peaceful after that....she was able to let go. My Mom was the toughest, never say die person in the family, and I personnally wouldn't have believed she could have let go as easily as she did. But once the rite was over, we all held her, and talked to her, and she was able to escape this mess without worry, pain, and general uselessness that she greatly feared. No alzheimers, no bedsores, no screaming in pain, just a feeling of relief, for her, her husband, and her children and grandchildren. Heaven? Who knows? Everyone needs to believe what is right for them.

23. I am quite sure that this replay pegs me as a freepertrolldisruptor......
But I am not. This is a true, unvarnished feeling that I have felt upon my moms death. I am virtually an atheist. I'm very confused right now. not sure how things line up. All I know is that I am feeling something akin to peace. I Don't know if there is an afterlife, I would just like to think there is.

25. Plenty of DUers believe in some sort of afterlife
Edited on Tue Dec-20-05 11:51 PM by AlienGirl
Personally, I am almost certain there is reincarnation. At the very least, I am certain that people sometimes have the experience of remembering events that happened to someone else who died before they were born.

maybe she's getting worried about where she'll spend eternity. Sort of like W.C. Fields reading the Bible before he died because he was "looking for loopholes."

30. I would like there to be a Heaven
I would like to know that there is an answer for problems like pain, injustice, cruelty, etcetera.

I'd also like to believe that those who have behaved despicably in their lives towards others are dealt with later. I'd like to think that there is an extra-special corner of Hell for those who molest children, for instance.

My great aunt used to tell me that there was no such thing as Hell; that a loving God would not send anyone to eternal damnation. My church insisted that she was wrong.

Let's just say that I don't know.

Julie

34. Heaven is a place where nothing ever happens.
Everyone is trying to get to the bar.
The name of the bar, the bar is called Heaven.
The band in Heaven plays my favorite song.
They play it once again, they play it all night long.

Heaven is a place where nothing ever happens.
Heaven is a place where nothing ever happens.

There is a party, everyone is there.
Everyone will leave at exactly the same time.
Its hard to imagine that nothing at all
could be so exciting, and so much fun.

Heaven is a place where nothing ever happens.
Heaven is a place where nothing ever happens.

When this kiss is over it will start again.
It will not be any different, it will be exactly
the same.
It's hard to imagine that nothing at all
could be so exciting, could be so much fun.

Heaven is a place where nothing every happens.
Heaven is a place where nothing every happens.

35. there is no proof of heaven
Edited on Wed Dec-21-05 01:26 PM by maxsolomon
if the true nature of the divine is a mystery, how can heaven be known during life? it is by definition, speculation based on faith. even the reports of the experience of dying (lights, doors, floating) could merely be interpretations through the lens of faith. it is ultimately unknowable.

for islam to say that there will be virgins to deflower, & servants for everyone is, frankly, retarded. there is slavery in heaven? where did the slaves come from? were they people who screwed up & were sentenced by Allah to sex slave or servant status in heaven?or are they like heaven's robots?

it is a fairy tale we have told ourselves to give meaning to unpleasant lives & otherwise meaningless deaths. if you take jesus at his word, then heaven is this existence on this planet, and we cannot see it.
