1. He was Morning Sedition
The other Mark is a good sideman, but I don't listen now. I miss the crazy fun political satire of Marc Maron.

3. That's not as bad as how XM is "promoting" AAR:
See my thread:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=104&topic_id=5654882&mesg_id=5654882

XM ad for AirAmerica Radio: "More lies and distortion..."

"...but this time, it's OUR lies and distortion."

So, what they're insinuating is that AAR is full of liars and distortions.

Sorry, but this has been a small bug up my ass since I first heard it about a month ago...

Also, when is XM going to play Mike Malloy's full show on his normal time slot?

I wonder if XM had anything to do with Maron's ouster?:grr:

12. Mike Malloy will be on LIVE beginning January 2nd.
Edited on Wed Dec-21-05 09:52 AM by AntiCoup2K4
Wussy ass Colmes is moving to the new FAUX channel. In the meantime, Mike's taking Randi Rhodes timeslot today and most of next week, and believe me, he hasn't been holding back because he's on earlier

As for the ad, it's not new, but I don't care for it either.

4. They fired him? Over what?
I liked Mark!, but then again I haven't been listening, too much going on in my house that time of the day.

5. They didn't fire him!!!
His contract ran out. It was not renewed because the MS ratings were low. That's life in the radio business.

7. Is it not the same thing?
Edited on Wed Dec-21-05 08:29 AM by insane_cratic_gal
Not renewing a contract is like firing but all "pleasant" like.

Worse it's more of a slap in the face, Was he asking for a bigger salary? I could understand that. But from what I've been reading he seems that he was right on Par with Rachel's popularity.

Oh one more thing: the show is still there, Mark Riley and He worked together didn't they? So the rejection was not from poor ratings it was a rejection of the host.

8. Goldberg fired him
Morning Sedition's ratings were going up. He wanted to renew his contract, and everyone else wanted him to stay. It was one man's decision to cut him out. And it was the worst decision he's made yet. There was something really unique in the chemistry of Marc and Mark and the crew, that really connected with listeners around the globe. And now it's been destroyed.

14. The ratings were not going up
Edited on Wed Dec-21-05 10:04 AM by DancingBear
Just because Maron said they were does not make it so.

Please remember, for every true fan who loved MS there were twice as many who found it to be un-listenable.

Heads of networks do not make decisions predicated on what they themselves like. In many cases (see MSNBC), they make them predicated on maintaining a certain political agenda (see Phil Donahue), but they do not do so merely on a "gee I like him but I don't like her" game plan. That would be asinine, and judging by what Goldberg is doing with regards to the AAR syndication arm, AND getting AAR to an exclusive deal with the largest satellite radio provider, AND increasing the number of conventional over-the-air stations currently carrying parts or all of the AAR schedule he is anything but asinine.

That show had about as much business being on in drive-time as I did.

15. Thank you DancingBear!!
I don't understand why people don't get this. Morning Sedition was liked by many of the far left, but the show never attracted new listenership and it certainly didn't convert anyone. That time slot is too important to waste on comedy and inappropriate bits.

Edited on Wed Dec-21-05 10:27 AM by insane_cratic_gal
Why is he on air?

the far left hates him.

Get rid of Marc but Keep Springer?

18. You're welcome
It's a tough sell trying to convince folks who really liked the show that it is/was pretty much a cult show. Folks who may want to hear another point of view (after being bombarded with Limbaugh, Hannity and their local right-wing ditz) would not "get it" at all (hell, I never did) and would then imply ALL of AAR was like MS.

There were real reasons why many affiliates chose not to carry it -it was certainly not some type of crazed "vendetta" against Maron like many here want to believe.

To a good part of listening America, the format just wasn't what they wanted to hear.

13. I thought he was moving to LA with his wife...
and was getting a weekend show to replace Winstead, who's splitting the daily morning slot with Riley (not sharing...splitting in 2-hr blocks)

9. Over the humor
Goldberg reportedly doesn't like humor in the morning show.

17. Either do listeners...
The ratings were, and always have been low for that show. QUIT blaming Goldberg!!!

Geez, would you rather they kept that show for your sake, while at the same time hurting all of AAR with low ratings?
