Just how far back do you think they keep those credit card records for every purchase you've made?

Oh yeah, in milliseconds, they matched up your spouse and kids, parents and siblings - cause they know an apple doesn't fall far from the tree and after all, that info is also in the IRS hands. Families breed defeatists, don't you know? They pulled your spouse's records to make sure they matched up. How are the little darlings doing in school? Better pull their records just to make sure they're not some type of cover for terrorists. Same with the grandparents, better check em out to make sure they're real. Anyone had a speeding ticket or any other anti-social behaviours? Mark them a little higher on the interest scale. I posted a little too much info on what I was doing. Some freeper figured out where I was and called security where I was working and said I had made a bomb threat. It was actually pretty telling, when they came up to me they had a copy of the post, which of course had no "threats" in it at all, yet they kept insisting I was a security threat. Even though the evidence was right in front of them they still insisted on believing the caller instead of their own lying eyes.

I've discounted Echelon for some time as possibly being far too cumbersome to be worthwhile or effective as a cointelpro elint/sigint tool. And as a national security tool, it probably still is. The filtering of terrabytes of data is one thing...the time and effort and analyst-hours of human analysis is another.

But as an "enemies list" tool, Echelon-lite could work just fine.
