Is Capitol Hill Blue a reliable publication? (Dallas-free zone please)
Edited on Wed Dec-21-05 09:43 AM by ...of J.Temperance
I must say that I don't know too much about it. I do like their articles, but I'm not sure if they're 100%

Yes or no?

1. Nope...
They rely heavily on conjecture and 3rd generation unnamed sources.

3. I don't believe they've earned any trust.
And I understand they did a lot of Clinton-bashing back in the days of Monica.

I think they just publish what a lot of us like to hear.

But like I said, they have to earn their credibility first. I haven't seen that yet. Has anyone else?

6. I was impressed by the prescience shown
in the article about Dear Leader calling the Constitution a "goddamned piece of paper" recently. "Pure speculation," I heard; "not a word of truth to it." Then, a week later we get the revelations about domestic spying that cast that brilliant instrument in the role of nothing but "a goddamned piece of paper."

Was that a coincidence, or indicia of something more profound?

12. bush has shown his disdain re: the Constitution for a long time.
I don't think it was exactly going out on a limb for CHB to publish that "GD piece of paper" article.

4. Keep an Open Mind
The one thing I've noticed is many of the articles in Capitol Hill Blue eventually ends up in the MSM three or four months later. I don't think it's more or less credible than any other paper in this country, what with buying reporters and in the case of the NYT the editor and publisher a year ago, or the MSM reporters. Someone said they didn't have any credibility, well guess what, not many journalists print or tv, pass the smell test on credibility. I would say just sort through and use some discrimination.

5. Is the New York Times, The Washington Times?

Every news source has it's angle. Like Rawstory these new sites walk on the edge to increase readership.

25. Correction: "walk on the edge to keep their owners happy"
The owners of practically all the MSM are a hand full of big corporations.

Rawstory is operated by a small organization that is dependant on advertising, but not dependant on a big corporate owner.

Most journalists just don't write any stories that don't help their career.

In the MSM "Walking on the edge" at best means that some journalists do try to write stories that are a bit controversial but still do make it past the filter (don't hurt their career to much). Because the interests of the large corporate owners of the MSM way heavy on what stories do or do not help your career.

8. Like many other "sources" there is a grain of truth
You have to be a discerning reader, go to multiple sources & make your own decisions. Is the NYT or WAPO a reliable source? Sometimes.

10. Nah.
Every time their stuff gets posted here, it erupts in a flame war. They post stories loaded with direct quotes of insider meetings at the White House. No one else gets these kinds of stories, so until someone does, I'm skeptical.

11. IMO, CHB is historical fiction
They print want they think makes sense, not necessarily what actually happened.

For example, the recent story that bush yelled at some staffer that brought up constitutional limitations that the constitution is just a goddamned piece of paper. Did he actually say that in the presence of someone who would leak it to CHB? Highly doubtful. But, does he actually think it? Almost certainly.

Like historical fiction, they make up conversations, etc. that seem to fit the facts.

13. Okay then, it's official
Capitol Hill Blue is a good read, but it's not reliable and one should take the articles with a large pinch of salt.

Thanks for clearing this up for me everyone who responded :)

15. It's code to a certain person, that I don't want him responding to my post
Until he thinks about something he said he'd think about. It's not exactly a forum issue, but I put the code in there anyhow.

22. Yes. I like them.
I think it's a fine site.

Many DUers are a bit peeved at Doug Thomson's rant against Will Pitt:

http://www.capitolhillblue.com/artman/publish/article_7673.shtml

But on the whole, I think it's a great site that treats both sides of the aisle with the same amount of contempt. In other words: They do journalism.

26. If you enjoy being told what you WANT to hear, it's great.
If your looking for a true source of information, it's utter crap.

I'm sure if you asked the average right-winger if newsmax was reliable they'd tell you it was. Let's not emulate them.
