Bush Pardons Fellow Cokehead
(Kpete: no offence to Cokeheads)

Bush pardons Denver attorney
MDC counsel, now 49, was sentenced in '84 cocaine case

Print By Tillie Fong and Hector Gutierrez, Rocky Mountain News
December 21, 2005

A Denver lawyer was pardoned Tuesday by President Bush for drug-related crimes she committed more than two decades ago.
Wendy St. Charles, now 49, was among 11 people who received presidential pardons.

In 1984, she was sentenced to four years in prison in Illinois for conspiracy to conduct a narcotics enterprise and distribution of cocaine, according to the U.S. Department of Justice.

She was also put on four years of special parole and four years of probation, which were to run consecutively with her sentence.

"It is wonderful news, and I'm grateful to the president," said St. Charles, who was told Tuesday morning about the pardon by a justice department official.

18. An 8-ball wouldn't last Shrub but for a sniff or two.
Make a nice $2,500 baggie will do.

Talk to the new farmer in charge of Bolivia for a discounted rate.

Peace.

3. OK, what don't I understand?
She was sentenced in 1984 to 4 years plus another 4 years for conspiracy, so she should have been out by 1992. Why the pardon?

Plus, who were the other 10 pardons?

8. She's been out
Read the whole article at Rocky Mountain News. There's this little snippet:

"Currently, she is a licensed attorney who works for MDC Holdings, Inc., the largest Denver-based home-building firm and one of the top 10 home builders in the U.S.

Larry Mizel, chair of the MDC Holdings Inc., and his wife, Carol, are major supporters of the Republican Party and its candidates, donating thousands of dollars to their campaigns."

Top Company: Real Estate/Construction
MDC Holdings

MDC Holdings Inc., Colorado's largest home builder and one of the 10 largest in the nation, is posting another record-breaking sales year in 2005, which means it will top its record $4 billion in sales in fiscal 2004, which topped its record $3 billion in sales in 2003. There's just no stopping Chairman and CEO Larry Mizel and his company.

Denver-based MDC, which builds single-family residences as Richmond American Homes and finances mortgages for many of the buyers of those homes, then sells homeowners' insurance to the new owners, was named the 2005 Top Company in construction and real estate by ColoradoBiz.

The award came on MDC's second try for it, after more than 30 years in business in Colorado. Mizel said he was persistent in seeking the recognition because it certifies his company's leadership in his industry.

<snip>

Mizel considers the challenges faced by companies nationwide in 2005, from rising fuel prices to responding to the destruction along the Gulf Coast from hurricanes Katrina and Rita, short-term setbacks. "The homebuilding sector in general is beginning to experience a temporary strain in labor, supplies and materials as a result of these devastating hurricanes," he said in early fall. The shortages, he said, might temporarily drive up prices, but MDC's response to the hurricanes was being handled through its charitable foundations rather than rushing to the affected markets to make money off of the rebuilding.

4. Now Bush needs to pardon the 1,000,000+ non-violent drug offenders
currently serving hard time for their "crimes".

How about freeing some of the potheads that inhaled?

7. I'll throw out a guess - the lady wants to run for office. Maybe
Chimpy is just doing her a favor like Gonzales did for his drunk driving record. Just making it ago away. Republican values at work.

"conspiracy to conduct a narcotics enterprise and distribution of cocaine, "

Sounds like somebody bought her a pardon.

20. I view this in a more positive light.
Most presidents seem to wait until the end of their term to pass out pardons. Personally, I hope that he sees his coming impeachment and is in a hurry to dole out what favors he can before he is completely disgraced. Shrug, the glass can be half full sometimes...
