Do They Know It's Christmas Time - Hurricane Survivors Flash Video
Please see this flash video at this link: http://www.tbtmradio.com/flash/southernrelief.swf

*Please* note that the old toll free number to Congress (1-877) number no longer works. We are trying to correct this at the site that hosts this version of the video. It is my understanding that when corrected, the link should stay the same.

Call Congress Toll Free: 1-800-426-8073

:bluebox: The bill that is up for a vote today will release $29B - a sum with which Senator Landrieu's office is pleased (much better than what the White House offered). The sick part is that billions of the dollars promised are 'profits' from drilling in ANWR. How sick are these people to tie the needs of citizens to their evil ANWR drilling - they are holding the troops and the survivors hostage so that they can make their corporate buddies rich.

http://landrieu.senate.gov/hurricanes/bills.cfm

:redbox: The money released to hurricane survivors should be from tax revenues, not linked to the success of any business venture - especially not this business venture.

We are praying for a filibuster to stop this bill, send it back to conference, and find a larger sum of money to release immediately to the Gulf Coast. Call Congress and give them support, let them know that it is wrong to hold the survivors hostage. Ask them to remove the ANWR drilling and to use tax revenues (no more tax cuts for the rich) to fund the reconstruction efforts.

This a new link to the flash version of the video created by Soup and IndyOp after reading JimmyJazz's suggestion that this song should be used to call attention to the needs of Hurricane Survivors. JimmyJazz planted the seed; IndyOp, with the help of sfexpat2000, tended the fields; Soup harvested the crop and symbolman helped make the crops more marketable.

How I love DUers. Thank you all, thank you so much. :grouphug: :loveya:

The link: http://www.tbtmradio.com/flash/southernrelief.swf

IndyOp wanted me to let those interested in hosting this file at their websites:

For those that want to download the file, they can just right click on it (PC) and when it says "Save Target As" then choose that and a folder in your directory to download it to.. then upload it to their server and create a link to it, using their server and ending with "southernrelief.swf"..

PLEASE SPREAD THIS FAR & WIDE TODAY -- Thank you.

I don't know whether, if I were a hurricane survivor, I would have the guts to tell them to filibuster a bill that would be providing some relief... If it goes back to conference it probably won't have a hope of passing until next year... We can call and we can try.

I talked to someone at Kerry's office this morning, too - they said Kerry cares about ANWR, but would not say whether he plans to filibuster.

Call KERRY, call BOXER, call REID -- tell them to shut the senate down!

3. They can't hold us hostage this way.
Not the survivors and not the troops.

Damn them - we need the money - but there are other ways. We need to tax the wealthy folks and stop giving tax breaks to corporations that don't make a difference in the devastated areas.

We need to stop trying to rape our nation at the expense of the citizens.

57. hmmmm
"We need to stop trying to rape our nation at the expense of the citizens"

but essentially, that's what your nation has been built on, only now, because you didn't stand up for the foreign nations you did this too, it's coming home to roost, because its the only way they know how

if you wondered for years what on earth peoples problems with the american governments image and reality, and the difference between the two, i believe right now your sucking the lemon of complacency and inaction

lets break the cycle and start kikking back

71. You are generalization are inaccurate relative to my stance and/or actions
But, I agree, there is a cycle that needs to be broken and we need to reclaim our nation.

In welcoming you, I suggest you adjust your tone to not appear to attack and individual poster. Also, you may want to watch the generalizations.

75. hi there
:hi:

firstly let me say sorry if i caused any offence, it wasn't my intention, though i do realise the subjects i touched on were very ugly,

i wasn't attacking anyone? was i? thought it was just a well needed reality check!

if reality is offensive, am i a terrorist now?

whatever your stance might be my friend, the following are facts

America has a long history of doing bad things to other countries.
These facts are well known. You can find information about them all over the internet. But no so hotly reported on from their own state media :D

1953 - America overthrows Iranian Government and installs Brutal Dictator Shah of Iran who procedes to murder and terrorize for decades with our full support.
1954 - America overthrows democratically elected President Arbenz of Guatemala and kills thousands of civilians in the process. America continued to support the military dictatorship for the next 40 years, causing
over 200,000 more deaths among innocent civilians. Even Bill Clinton went there in 1999 and apologized by saying: "For the United States, it is important that I state clearly that support for military forces and intelligence units which engaged in violence and widespread repression was wrong, and that the United States should not repeat that mistake." (I guess Bush wasn't listening was he?)
1959 - Present - America involved in the murder of thousands of Cubans through assassinations, bombings, invasions and more violence. America still illegally occupies part of the Island of Cuba and holds thousands of Prisoners of War incommunicado there, torturing and abusing them, in stark violation of the Geneva Convention against mistreatment of prisoners of war. The Geneva Convention also states that all POW's are to be released after the war is over.
1950-s & 1970's - America tries to overthrow the democratically-elected president of Costa Rica, overthrow attempt in the 1950's and tries to assassinate him twice in the 1970's when he is again re-elected. Reason?: he's liberal and supports diplomatic relationship with the Soviet Union.
1950's-1964 - America tries to overthrow democratically-elected liberal president of Guyana, finally succeeding in overthrowing him in 1964. Guyana goes from rich nation to one of the poorest, American Corporations still make hundreds of millions in the midst of mass poverty and hunger.
1960's - Present - America involved in supporting one rightwing fascist Columbian government after another, resulting in the deaths of 67,000 innocent civilians. We provide them Billions in Aid, even today.
1960's - 1990's - America supports the murderous dictator Duvalier in Haiti (and his son); supporting drug traffic and murder and torture so that American Corporations can continue to exploit Haiti's poor. America prevents coup attempt in 1959 and continues to train the vicious military and secret police of Duvalier.
1963 - America assassinates President Diem of South Vietnam and kills 4 million in this part of Asia between 1963-1975. We used chemical weapons directly on the civilian population, causing tens of thousands of deaths of innocent children, and thousands of square miles continue to be unusable as the result of the chemicals we dumped on their prime farmland and villages. They have had and continue to have hundreds of thousands of birth defects in their population from the lingering effects of the poisons we put in their environment and dropped directly on them. America has not even apologized for any of it's war crimes.
1963 - America overthrows liberal democratically-elected President Bosch in Dominican Republic and installs military dictatorship, 19 months later American troops go in when citizens clamor for return to democracy; thousands murdered.
1964 - America overthrows democratically-elected President Goulart in Brazil and installs military dictatorship and so begins 15 years of death squad murders, rape of nuns, murder of priests & union organizers w/our permission and full support.
1966 - America overthrows the President of Nigeria and installs Dictator leading to the Biafran War and the deaths of millions of innocent civilians. America continues to support Dictator after Dictator for next 35 yrs. resulting in the deaths of millions..
1973 - America assassinates democratically elected President Allende of Chile and installs dictator Pinochet and kills 10,000 civilians. America through the CIA gives permission for Chile's Secret Police to assassinate american citizen and Chilean Dissident here in the United States by car bomb in Washington, D.C. in 1976. Killing took place.
1977 - Present - America backs Military Dictatorship and right wing Death Squads in El Salvador and kills 75,000 civilians, including raping and killing American Nuns with full knowledge and permission of the CIA.
1980 - America trains and arms Osama Bin Laden and gives him 3 Billion dollars.
1977 -1990 - America trains and arms 'Contras' and kill 30,000 Innocent Nicaraguans. The right wing death squads we pay for and support, continue their murders for over 10 years, including raping nuns, killing priests and innocent villagers.
1982 - America gives Saddam Hussein many Billions of dollars to kill Iranians including chemical and biological agents that we provided for him to murder innocent civilians with in 1988.
1983 - America gives Iran weapons to kill innocent Iraqi's in the famous Iran-Contra scandal.
1989 - American supported and trained Dictator Noreiga who has been running drugs and killing civilians for years pisses us off and we remove him, killing 3,000 innocent civilians in the process.
1990 - Iraq invades Kuwait with many tons of American weaponry and training provided by the U.S..
1991 - America invades Iraq and kills 500,000 innocent children with bombing and starvation and disease. America pollutes the ground water with radiation from Armor Penetrating Shells we used by the thousand and thousands of villagers are sickened and many children die of radiation related disorders.
2000-2001 - America gives Taliban 245 Million in 'Aid' and the money is used to kill and oppress Afghani's; giving tacit approval for the complete domination of women and non-Muslims.
2001 - America invades Afghanistan and along with removing the Taliban, participates in the massacre of 3000 Surrendered Taliban Conscripts, and dozens of other internationally recognized War Crimes. The rest of the world looks on in horror as American Soldiers are given 'carte-blanche' to torture, beat, and otherwise abuse thousands of Afghani citizens, most of which prove to be innocent bystanders. Several thousand conscripted Afghani's still are beiing tortured today in Cuba, Egypt, Bahrain, and Kuwait by U.S. authorities.
2002 - America backs the successful coup against the democratically-elected President Hugo Chavez in Venezuela by Right Wing Fascists aligned with American Interests, the people of Argentina respond by throwing the fascists out a few days later and reinstating their democratically-elected President. Prez/King Bush is sorely dissappointed after praising the coup and is still trying to make trouble for Venezuela, buying people off, bullying and paying for the fascists efforts to remove the democratically-elected President.
1950's-NOW - America trains all sides of the African wars, including the rebel and government forces of Angola, Liberia, Rwanda, Congo, Sierra Leone, Ghana, Guinea, Somalia and Nigeria, an estimated 20 Million innocent civilians killed by the opposing forces we trained. They come here to our military schools, learn to mass murder and go home and massacre their neighbors. We support all sides as a matter of policy because whoever temporarily wins is still beholden to us and therefore under our influence. America supported the White Separatists of South Africa right up to the end, Reagan declared over and over they were our close friends and allies even as they went on brutalizing the black majority.
2003 - America invades Iraq, killing 8,000 innocent women, children and old men; and 30,000 conscripted Iraqi soldiers that didn't need to die. Rumsfeld and General Myers and other Military & Administration Officials brag and joke about killing 3,000 Iraqi's in one day. Something only those like Hitler & Stalin could do. These are our government officials??????? A clear sign of how fascism is now part of our society.
2003 - America is still supporting the War Criminal Ariel Sharon as he murders and brutalizes millions of Innocent Palestinians daily. The rest of the world is appalled at our anti-Arab racism, we continue to ignore
numerous United Nation directives that call for an end to this racism and a just settlement for both sides.
2003 - America kidnaps over 450 Pakistani Citizens from Pakistan and takes them to 3rd countries that allow torture, and continues to hold them without charges, and routinely commits torture on these people.
2003 - America has troops all over Africa hunting down anyone who resists American control of their oil and resources; or anyone who organizes people on the local level. People are dying from the bullets of American Assassination Squads (Special Forces and CIA Assassins) in places like Somalia, the Sudan, and many other African nations. American agents are acting very similiar to Hitler's Assassin Teams pre-World War II and Stalin's Assassins.
2003 - A worldwide poll shows that America is feared and hated uniformly around the world, because of our willingness to murder civilians and occupy countries that don't allow us control over their policies. Remember that the rest of the world sees the atrocities American Soldiers are known to have committed on TV. The ongoing atrocities are openly shown because in many other countries their media is not controlled to the extent ours is. Here in America, we only see the right wing viewpoint filtered through the right wing American Business Establishments that coy up to our government, even using government propaganda and blatant lies and reporting it as 'news'.

These acts of violence have went on non-stop, regardless of whether the President was Democrat or Republican, and regardless of which party had majority control of Congress. Under Bush, Clinton, Bush Sr., Carter, Reagan, Ford, Nixon, Kennedy, Eisenhower, FDR and all the rest.

American General Smedley Butler, who in 1935 comments on his career in the US military, "I spent 33 years and 4 months in active military service... And during that period I spent most of my time as a high-class muscle man for Big Business, for Wall street and the bankers. In short, I was a racketeer, a gangster for capitalism."

Martin Luther King had it right when he stated that America was/is the biggest purveyor of violence around the globe. That same violent America soon murdered him and many like him, union leaders, students, religious leaders, anyone who stood up against the institutionalized sickness that dominates our country still today. We are perpetuating horrendous Crimes Against Humanity around the globe, right at this moment, nothing's changed; it's just underreported on the Mainstream Media. Because after all they are owned and only speak what Corporate America wants the general populace to hear, to allow Corporate America to maintain control over our domestic and global policies and even war making.

Blood is all over America's hands.
How long before we kill more millions of innocents?
America is no 'freedom' loving country, America is a merchant of death around the globe.
We protect our War Criminals, the same way Israel protects Ariel Sharon and other War Criminals there.
The world sees and hears about American crimes all the time, but American's are so numbed out and asleep we don't demand an accounting
for the crimes our children are committing at Bush's orders.

Think about it.
Is this what you want our country to be?
America, the 4th Reich???????
Better start speaking up before they come for you, too.

1900 – 1930s
American Terrorism and Tyranny in Latin America and Around the World From A People’s History of the United States <../books/PeoplesHistory.html> by Howard Zinn:
“For the United States to step forward as a defender of helpless countries matched its image in American high school history textbooks, but not its record in world affairs.
“It had instigated a war with Mexico and taken half of that country.
“It had pretended to help Cuba win freedom from Spain, and then planted itself in Cuba with a military base, investments, and rights of intervention.
“It had seized Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Guam, and fought a brutal war to subjugate the Filipinos.
“It had ‘opened’ Japan to its trade with gunboats and threats.
“It had declared an Open Door Policy in China as a means of assuring that the United States would have opportunities equal to other imperial powers in exploiting China. It had sent troops to Peking with other nations, to assert Western supremacy in China, and kept them there for over thirty years.
“While demanding an Open Door in China, it had insisted (with the Monroe Doctrine and many military interventions) on a Closed Door in Latin America — that is, closed to everyone but the United States.
“It had engineered a revolution against Colombia and created the ‘independent’ state of Panama in order to build and control the Canal.
“It sent five thousand marines to Nicaragua in 1926 to counter a revolution, and kept a force there for seven years.
“It intervened in the Dominican Republic for the fourth time in 1916 and kept troops there for eight years.
“It intervened for the second time in Haiti in 1915 and kept troops there for nineteen years.
“Between 1900 and 1933, the United States intervened in Cuba four times, in Nicaragua twice, in Panama six times, in Guatemala once, in Honduras seven times.
“By 1924 the finances of half of the twenty Latin American states were being directed to some extent by the United States. By 1935, over half of U.S. steel and cotton exports were being sold in Latin America.”
“And in every single case, these interventions were for the purpose of crushing popular revolts against the tyranny of the puppet governments the United States had installed in hapless countries around the world.
“Perhaps we’ll never know how many innocent men, women and children were murdered during all these “interventions.”
Gen. Smedley Butler’s confession
In 1935, two-time Medal of Honor winner, retired Gen. Smedley D. Butler accused major New York investment banks of using the U.S. Marines as racketeers and gangsters to exploit the peasants of Nicaragua.
Later, Butler stated:
“The trouble is that when American dollars earn only six percent over here, they get restless and go overseas to get 100 percent. The flag follows the dollar and the soldiers follow the flag.
“I wouldn’t go to war again as I have done to defend some lousy investment of the bankers. We should fight only for the defense of our home and the Bill of Rights. War for any other reason is simply a racket.
“There isn’t a trick in the racketeering bag that the military gang is blind to. It had its ‘finger men’ to point out enemies, its ‘muscle men’ to destroy enemies, its ‘brain men’ to plan war preparations and a ‘Big Boss’ — supernationalistic capitalism.
“I spent 33 years in the Marines. Most of my time being a high-class muscle man for Big Business, for Wall Street and the bankers. In short, I was a racketeer for capitalism.
“I helped purify Nicaragua for the international banking house of Brown Brothers in 1909-1912. I helped make Mexico and especially Tampico safe for American oil interests in 1914. I brought light to the Dominican Republic for American sugar interests in 1916. I helped make Haiti and Cuba a decent place for the National City Bank boys to collect revenue in. I helped in the rape of half a dozen Central American republics for the benefit of Wall Street.
“War is a racket.” — General Smedley Butler former U.S. Marine Commandant Common Sense November 1935

“The greatest crime since World War II has been U.S. foreign policy.” — Ramsey Clark former U.S. Attorney General under President Lyndon Johnson

i think Lyndon Johnson knew what he was talking about .. dont you?

i think henry kissinger did too when he called donald rumsfeld "the most ruthless person i have ever met"

im sorry if these do not sit well with your stance, they are uncomfortable reading for any human being

but there it is, the track record

and silence, complacency and unwitting trust in authority will not bring about the changes in america that you deserve, everyone deserves

so i apologise for any offence i may have caused, but i do not apologise for keeping people informed, even if that causes offence

the truth, no matter how uncomfortable, is a beautiful thing

76. Start your own thread if you want to inform.
Keep your generalizations out of mine or at least don't post them to me.

Again, I am well aware of my nation's faults and its past.
Tell me where you call home so I can share with your nation's failings over the course of history.

78. Yes, as a Brit, your nation has as much, if not more blood on it's
hands, including the blood of our ancestors. If your nation had not backed the weed-that-would-be-king chances are the greedy venture we know as the Iraqi War would not have been attempted. You share my guilt in this horrendous shame and in so many others.

A freeper is someone that comes to this forum to disrupt and slam members of the democratic party and spread hate and just be nasty. Attitude is everything, you don't have to agree, but you should try being polite. Don't aim your "attacks" at one person and don't generalize, that is just rude and ignorant.

Good luck to you.

79. thanks
and good luck to you too

it's just occurred to me there might be a sort of paradigm shift in thinking occurring across the ordinary citizens of the world, being facilitated in the main part by this thing called the internet

we are able to communicate freely with nations and peoples we are supposedly at war with and find otu for ourselves what is really going on

if this isn't happening ... Then why are all major western governments so worried right now? that they are resorting to spying on the ordinary citizens of their own country?

if it isn't happening, its not for my lack of trying ... lets make it happen

The great masses of the people... will more easily fall victims to a great lie than to a small one. Hitler

Hermann Goering: Why of course the people don't want war. Why should some poor slob on a farm want to risk his life in a war when the best he can get out of it is to come back to his farm in one piece? Naturally the common people don't want war neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, it is the leaders of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.

80. You will find that on this forum, true patriots post and take
an active roll in trying to reclaim our nation. Some by holding office, others simply by coming here to share information in a quest for the truth.

"All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger."

The above statement does not match 95% of the people that come here. We know that dissent is necessary to protect our rights and to hold our leaders to their duties as our leaders and as citizens of the world. We recognize our failings and struggle to find ways to improve.

i will ask all my internet groups to call and raise hell...
how are ya doing gal??

you all must be very tired of the fight for help..and frustrated...its horrible what you are going through...and there is "no excuse"...none...
but i do remember when i lost my home..in northridge earthquake having to go to the local newspapers of the senators and congressmen ..and blasting their asses..
i went after dole in kansas..who was holding up aide to us..and i got a good splash on the front pages talking about going potty in plastic buckets in our back yards...and how dole was witholding aide to us...

maybe you can get some with real life stories down there to do a chain of letters to all the bastards who are witholding aide..and blast the congress and senate peoples local papers..its amazing how effective this is...

the day after i was on the front page of the kansas city star and times...dole allowed the vote and the signing of relief for those of us who lost everything in the northridge earthquake...

its amazing how embarrassing these assholes works...it gets to locals ...the truth ..and they go on attack of their congress people!!

maybe some here could help some people down there with letters...but its the real life stories that are effective..

its really amazing how people can visualize sitting on a bucket..and how having to pay 7/11 $50.00 for a pint of milk...or $25.00 for a bannana...
real life stories gets peoples blood boiling and gets them active...

any help i can be please let me know..i am sure many here will help!!

sending my thoughts and prayers...fly

Thank you for putting this together.

I'm also going to suggest in my calls and letters that they all donate the pay raises they gave themselves to hurricane relief.

Unfortunately, I read that they passed this abomination of a bill. All we needed was one more Republican to come over to our side. They needed Cheney to break the tie.

This really sucks. They need to repeal some of the tax cuts for the wealthy to pay for the needs of the people.

17. No - what they passed this morning was the "Scrooge Bill"
it reduced funds for healthcare, student loans, food subsidies to the poor and middle-class nationwide...

The Republicans called it "Deficit-Reduction Bill" - it reduced spending alright. The filthy rich get to keep their tax cuts and the people get lumps of coal (or worse - no coal at all).

The "Katrina Relief" funds are attached to the defense appropriation bill - which also includes opening up ANWR and passing Frist's bill to protect companies that make vaccines that kill people.

24. Is this becoming the all-purpose "suffering blacks" charity song?
It was re-used for the Sudan crisis last year, even though Sudan isn't a Christian nation. Some people thought that was in poor taste, because it was sloppily equating suffering Africans in a Christian nation with those in a Muslim nation (do they know it's Christmas? They don't care. Let's write them a new song - we've had 20 years to do so).

So now, this song is being used on African American citizens. Let's not think og the suffering in New Orleans as being akin to a far-away humanitarian crisis. It's OUR problem, they're our fellow Americans. I think it's in porr taste to throw the old "starving Africans" charity song at them.

33. Brings it home, Merh
Just seeing the hot food lines in the Flash video inspired me to look up www.SecondHarvest.com and give a donation.

Next paycheck I'll give again to the www.RebuildTheCoastFund.org - the Greshams are oveseeing that 100% of all donations go directly to Gulf Coast citizens in need, by backing the fund with $5 million of their own dollars. You can't beat that for compassionate and generous oversight.

And the message that we're over 100 days into this disaster...with no substantial aid for all our sisters and bretheren on the Gulf Coast is both heartbreaking and infuriating. In days gone by America was faster and more compasionate to foreign disasters that we see our government being to a great American disaster. For shame.

We Americans pay a hell of a lot of our earnings in federal taxes...and I demand that at least some of my hard-earned money goes immediately and unfettered to my fellow citizens and my countrymen in need~

Back to the calls to the number you've given us, Merh.

Bless you all and keep you.

Our family has you in our prayers and thoughts constantly.

We shall not forsake you. Hold fast.

47. Here's the poem/song, merh:

Rep. Dingell, celebrating not only the holidays but also 50 years in the House:

'Twas the week before Christmas and all through the House,
no bills were passed 'bout which Fox News could grouse.
Tax cuts for the wealthy were passed with great cheer,
so vacations in St. Barts soon should be near.
Katrina kids were all nestled snug in motel beds,
while visions of school and home danced in their heads.
In Iraq, our soldiers need supplies and a plan,
and nuclear weapons are being built in Iran.
Gas prices shot up, consumer confidence fell.
Americans feared we were in a fast track to ... well.
Wait, we need a distraction, something divisive and wily,
a fabrication straight from the mouth of O'Reilly.
We will pretend Christmas is under attack,
hold a vote to save it, then pat ourselves on the back.
Silent Night, First Noel, Away in the Manger,
Wake up Congress, they're in no danger.
This time of year, we see Christmas everywhere we go,
From churches to homes to schools and, yes, even Costco.
What we have is an attempt to divide and destroy
when this is the season to unite us with joy.
At Christmastime, we're taught to unite.
We don't need a made-up reason to fight.
So on O'Reilly, on Hannity, on Coulter and those right-wing blogs.
You should sit back and relax, have a few egg nogs.
'Tis the holiday season; enjoy it a pinch.
With all our real problems, do we really need another Grinch?
So to my friends and my colleagues, I say with delight,
a Merry Christmas to all, and to Bill O'Reilly, happy holidays.
Ho, ho, ho. Merry Christmas.

KICK, and many thanks to those who created this work, believe me I know how much work went into this as I examined every frame of it, and when you try to recreate something someone else has done, this was a Quicktime before - I tried to recreate it as a Flash to save folks on download costs so it could be spread to more servers, you see just HOW much time and loving attention was devoted to their project..

Takebackthemedia.com is happy to be hosting the flash version, and honored.

Big sloppy kisses to those that created this fine work in the first place, and to everyone else, we're ON OUR OWN, if WE don't help each other then no one will.. all you get from washington is lip service.

so Merry Solstice, happy holydays, etc to one and all
