"Saddam Says He's Been Beaten in Detention"
BAGHDAD, Iraq - After several hours of quietly listening to testimony, Saddam Hussein alleged in a long outburst at his trial Wednesday that he had been beaten "everywhere on my body" while in detention. The chief prosecutor said that if American-led multinational forces were abusing the former Iraqi leader, he would be transferred into the custody of Iraqi troops. "Yes, I have been beaten, everywhere on my body. The marks are still there," Saddam told the court.

6. aw, have a heart
he was OUR (that is the United States') lovable little dictator in the middle east for so long. especially when he was fighting those dastardly iranians and keeping a semblance of order in the region.

i feel for the guy. his best friends (the CIA/US government) abandoned him.

11. So true, but there is a petty little piece of me that wants him to know
what he put so many others through.

Still, we are supposed to be the good guys. We shouldn't be doing it.

15. I know that we have, but the real point here is whether or not
torture and abuse are ok.

17. of course they are not
but i really get nonplussed at people who think saddam hussein is the problem.

he isn't. our nation's government is.

we used to have really good villains way back when: Hitler, Stalin, Mao.

Saddam Hussein is a hack compared to those guys.

9. If that's how you feel
Then you have no right to complain when one of our guys is tortured.

12. So you're not against torture then.
It's like the people who say "I'm completely against the death penalty, BUT..."

8. We better hope none of our guys and gals are captured
And I still think this whole thing is going to backfire. Saddam, although a very evil man, was in compliance when his country was attacked and taken over. Who is going to trust us again and what incentive does our actions give other bad guys?

If no torture means no torture, then it means no torture for Saddam too. That's like spanking a kid to teach him not to be violent.

10. Why should he expect to be treated any differently than our other
prisoners in Iraq?

16. Why should Saddam be tortured? Wasn't he the one they were after?
I could understand (but not agree) if they were tortuing some of his henchmen to get to him but he is the big fish here so what were they tortuing him for? I know, for the hell of it. And that is exactly what the rest of the world knows too.
